TROLLDANS 005EP
|
Gifted sound sculptor Edanticonf presents a tale of desire and tears in four parts. "Fairy 1" tells of a lake in the deep woods where a young princess called Tuvstarr once lost her gold heart and turned into a beautiful flower. "Fairy 2" tells of the princess, before she lost her precious necklace, riding like the wind through the forest on a grand elk. Vril steps in with a remix to transmit the sound of the noble elk's heart racing from both the pace and his devotion to Tuvstarr. "Fairy 3" ends Edanticonf's beautiful but melancholy tale with a glimmer of hope.

On her Trolldans release, with an arresting cover by John Bauer, Skirt creates visions of thick fog rising from insidious marshes; a mourning veil caught in a dead tree in a deserted graveyard; a massive dust-covered church organ playing for itself in a long-crumbled chapel. But there's a clear sense of pace and motion too: below the sweeping, eerie sounds there are beats of stuttering hearts and shaking bones triggering bodily movement. Lakker adds to this with their heavy, pulsating remix, and even brings some playfulness to the table before they too descends into complete darkness.

John Bauer's ancient Mountain King, featured on Ostinato's cover, has been dwelling on top of the mountain for so long that he himself has become part of it. His back is bent and his eyes are dim. But the air is getting clearer and crisper and alluring melodic fragments are floating through it. Suddenly he is overwhelmed by the urge to stand up. The forest itself senses the King's intentions and starts pulsating with rhythms, urging him on. He raises his head, breathing deeply. Albert van Abbe manages to convey this sense of determination and clarity with his Ostinato EP.

Swedish boutique label Trolldans is finally ready to present the second release in their catalog. On Moderskarlek, Claudio PRC presents a magical dimension of dance music, featuring dense, hypnotic rhythms and trance-like atmospheres. Semantica label-boss Svreca has experimented with complex noisy textures on his remix of the title-track "992 hpa," bringing the feeling of the Northern winter to the listener's mind. Moods before genres.

TROLLDANS 001EP

Following his recent Roland TB-303 experiments for Absurd and his understated reworking of Scuba's "The Hope," Berlin's Recondite has put together the debut release on boutique label Trolldans, based in the city of Kontra-Musik. Melancholic and spellbinding sounds, as always. Comes with a tribalish remix from the analog techno act, Skudge. Recondite's work stands on its own, feeling strangely divorced both from his previous output and especially from over two decades worth of acid house history.
