A Different Jimi is a project of the guy who is well-known as Egoexpress. This new endeavor is a blend of classic beats, house, disco in the vein of Hamilton Bohannon and the unmistakable passion for the jazz sound of the hard bop era that resonates in the depth of the production. The title-track is melancholic jazzy house and the B-side is in a more Balearic mood.

"Hi5" is the latest prank from A Different Jimi aka Jimi Siebels. It's a bitchy Chicago house smasher in a surprisingly refreshing kinship to New York's hard bop of the 1960s, without ever being in danger of becoming acid-jazz. Because in order to create his own definition of jazz-infected-house, Jimi makes no use of already overstrained rare groove samples, but a classic range of instruments and musical friends who he invites to recording sessions in his studio. So we hear RVDS at the piano, Hayo Doin on drums and DJ Björnski on guitar.

"Yes, he is a member of Egoexpress. But no, he isn't Egoexpress. He is a different Jimi. As the label's first official act, the president of It's (Jimi) has released his own solo debut 12". Like a conscientious smithy, he hammers and drives until all those little pony feet are hooved and clad with the best of shoes. And if that iron isn't at least 100% excellent, then it goes back into the fire. But finally, three hot irons have made it onto black gold. Two of them will get you galloping across the dancefloor: '1753 Angelo' and 'I Don't Know Why You Say.' Two poppy house tracks -- because house is the sound of now and exploding harmonies are Jimi's unique way of conquering dullness with a different kind of musical euphoria. The third track 'My Hang' has the beauty of a Moondog composition, something that is more than hard to find these days. At long last -- something really fine."
