RVNGNL 003EP
|
"The cargo of Allez-Allez's debut EP, Hideous Racket, contains a suspiciously alien sound that could only be kept secret for so long before being smuggled and peddled by RVNG Intl. on the war torn and drug dirtied mutant dance floors. This London lab tech duo staked their claim with social and online experiments and now expand their methodically creative reach with four tracks made for the interstellar overdrive. The EP begins with the melodically rich and playful title track before the aquatic acid house of 'Seven Down Six Across' bubbles to the surface to close the a-side. The b-side starts with the James Holden championed 'Weird Science', a washy blend of Frippertronic frequencies and a street smart beat, and rounds out with the shimmering Rhythm Ace shuffle of 'Slump', described by Optimo's JD Twitch as 'Chris & Cosey riding a flying hoover over the city in Blade Runner.' Designed by Kevin O'Neill at Will Work for Good, each 12" is packaged with a red or blue vinyl cling allowing your own commentary depending on the mood. First pressing limited to 550 copies."

KICK 025EP

"For the past three years, Allez-Allez have developed an enviable reputation as two of London's most in-demand and respected bloggers, DJs and remixers. Well received, forward thinking Allez-Allez remixes for the likes of Fever Ray, Simian Mobile Disco, Hot Chip and Telepathe are now followed by a debut single for Cologne's highly respected Kickboxer imprint. Part of Kompakt's associated labels, the track (entitled 'Defeatist') is a growling analogue peak time stormer, backed with 'Slump' a melancholic kraut epic described by Optimo's JD Twitch as sounding 'like Chris & Cosey riding a flying hoover over the city in Blade Runner.' The package features a slamming remix by Border Community's Ricardo Tobar, which has already been rocking the crowds from the record boxes of none other than BC boss James Holden and Krautronica master Four Tet now for some time! Also included are two rerubs by winners of the FOEM remix competition - Soundcaster and Karizmxxxx that twist the original into exciting new shapes for diverse dancefloors."

Allez Allez are one of those early '80s hidden gems of the Belgian new wave dance scene who shone so brightly for a few years (1981-1985) and then were gone -- but not forgotten. Based around the writing and production nucleus of Brussels-based Kristiaan Debusscher and Nicolas Fransolet, a third dimension was added by American vocalist Sarah Osbourne. Early hi-tempo hits such as "African Queen," "Allez Allez" and "She's Stirring Up" became global club classics. Allez Allez were the funky follow-up to the Brussels-based collective Marine. The trademarks of Allez Allez were highly danceable and catchy rhythms, African influences and high quality singing, forming a powerful and funky mixture. The band's debut mini-album African Queen promptly went gold and they recorded a full album in John Foxx's studio with production handled by Heaven 17 mastermind, Martin Ware. Promises was a more refined funk album with soul influences and the road for an international breakthrough seemed open. Then singer Sarah Osbourne left the group and married the singer of Heaven 17, Glenn Gregory. A replacement was found in New York-based Jackie Irwin, but she never managed to truly replace the sensual and flexible Sarah and although it was produced by Madonna-discoverer Mark Kamins, the following 12" Boom Boom flopped. Techno fans may also be interested to know that Sarah Osbourne later found herself in Detroit on the cusp of techno's evolution and as well as painting a mural on the east wall of Detroit's legendary Music Institute, she also painted a cover for Rhythim Is Rhythim and ultimately sang vocals on a number of Carl Craig tracks. Now, for the first time, some 25 years later, Eskimo brings you the Best of Allez Allez. Including bonus remixes from contemporary producer-fans such as Quiet Village (aka Matt Edwards and Joel Martin), Aeroplane, Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas and Optimo (Espacio), you can check out the funky, African-inspired new wave rhythms of one of Belgium's finest dance exports.
