Martin Buttrich, a name synonymous for decades with expertly curated sonic productions, has had a career as long as it has been prolific. The opening track "Northeast" sees punchy stabs interlace with a shifting melodic bass, both dancing playfully over and under shuffling snares and hats which carry the listener from start to finish. "Southwest" continues on with a bouncing percussive groove that provides the platform for a canorous bassline and string melody to emerge.

"It was an honor to be involved in Planet E's 20th Anniversary remix project as it's always been one of my favorite labels, run of course by one of my very favorite friends! The very first Planet E release by 69 blew me away back in 91 -- and it was a dream come true when Carl signed my Future/Past track for the labels second release a few months later. There are many classic tracks on the label, but choosing to remix 'Full Clip' was a no-brainer for me. It was a high-risk strategy as it's one of the labels anthems, well-known and loved by thousands worldwide. But I knew it has the building blocks and potential to go in other directions with my personal touch applied. It's both a classic and futuristic production -- and I was very grateful to get the chance to remix it." --Kirk Degiorgio

DESOLAT 002LP
|
This is the first full-length album on Desolat by renowned German composer and producer Martin Buttrich. The album is a compilation of tracks, picked from among many works the artist has created at his Hannover studio and various spaces worldwide. Crash Test is an organic sequence of shifting moods to sublimate existing minimal house or techno paradigms. The album is shaded with bass weight: a reflective, meandering interpretation of the grooves that have always inspired Buttrich: echoes of hip-hop, jazz, reggae and soul. Emotive tangents hover, punctuated with found sounds and textures recorded in public spaces. The album contains more acoustic and analog instruments than Martin Buttrich usually uses, and attempts to bridge a gap between imagined and audible worlds. First pressing includes a download code for a digital version of the album, including 2 additional tracks only available on the CD version.

DESOLAT 002CD
|
This is the first full-length album on Desolat by renowned German composer and producer Martin Buttrich. Whether listened to while driving on the highway or on a massive speaker stack at next summer's festivals, one thing is for sure: Crash Test will splinter preconceptions. The album is a compilation of tracks, picked from among many works the artist has created over the last 15 months at his Hannover studio and various spaces and places worldwide. Each song pays testament to this Grammy-nominated artist's fluid approach to music composition -- an ability to converse with machines, and dive deep into the circuitry of a song. Buttrich has spent recent years developing a sound that appeals to both sides of the brain: having dropped records on labels such as Planet E, Four:Twenty, Cocoon, Poker Flat and Desolat that encompass the entire spectrum between dreaminess, intuition, warmth, melancholy, and highly-calibrated dancefloor precision. Meanwhile, his catalog stretches round some of the most influential dance tracks heard around the globe since 1992. Crash Test is a long-player, a four-to-the-floor album that can be listened to from start to finish; an organic sequence of shifting moods to sublimate existing minimal house or techno paradigms. The album is shaded with bass weight: a reflective, meandering interpretation of the grooves that have always inspired Buttrich: echoes of hip-hop, jazz, reggae and soul. Emotive tangents hover, punctuated with found sounds and textures recorded in public spaces. This album is intended as an expression of a certain time and space: a collection of tracks that could only have been woven together at this turbulent point in history. The album contains more acoustic and analog instruments than Martin Buttrich usually uses, and attempts to bridge a gap between imagined and audible worlds. A bridge from the cozy confines of a studio to the outer spaces, in which each tune is re-contextualized.

COR 052EP
|
Germany's Martin Buttrich has been decisively influencing the sound aesthetics of electronic dance music since the middle of the '90s. His second EP for Cocoon couldn't prove better his prediction that in 2008, minimal techno will contain more warm and melodic components. "Again" and "I Lost My Wallet" provide us with bass-prone reduction somewhere in between techno and house, and harmony bits that remind of Caribbean calypso, perfect for the open-air season.

COR 039EP

Martin Buttrich is a phenomenon and this is his debut on Cocoon Recordings. Whereas the focus on his Planet E records was on a playful modulating bassline that played with effects and breaks, "Hunter" is based on the beat. Combined with hypnotic, driving vocal snippets and warm synthy sounds, Buttrich has created two great DJ tools that have enormous power on the dancefloor.

Martin Buttrich is a Germany-based producer and ingenious mastermind behind the Time Tools studio and co-producer for high profile artists like Timo Maas or Loco Dice. Cloudy Bay is his debut EP for Poker Flat. The first track is catchy and simply beautiful, with exciting strings and a wicked break. Massive tune! The B-side holds two more high-spirited tracks with "What's Your Name" being a bit more relaxed and deep, while "Lazy Bastard" edges upwards again to a good pace with a great arrangement and a 100% positive vibe.
