RB 110X-EP

Mind Eclipse completes Deetron's triptych for Running Back. After Body Electric and Ego Rave, it's the missing part in a tale of youthful exuberance told by a seasoned raver and transported into the here and now. Taking the essence of the carefree energy of those days, its warehouses and fields minus the (sometimes!) aural clumsiness, Deetron delivers four studies in the transformation of said emotional states. "Mind Eclipse" aka "Trancehouzztool" does exactly what it says on the tin: big synths, swirl and twirl during an extra-long break down for an uproar -- serotonin shower included. "HG" acts like an umbrella to that. Almost melancholic in its presence and meandering between highs and lows, it's the perfect counterpoint and offset. On the other side, "Phoenix" sounds like a lost Border Community hymn that found its way near a Roland 909 for peak time purposes, before "The Shore" closes the book in a hybrid state between electro and disco or the soundtrack to IDM supporters in a gym workout (also available in an alternative version digitally for those who like their beats straight). It won't eclipse your mind though that Deetron knows what he does in the studio, so expect finest artistry, crafty tricks and technical expertise.

CHARACTER 009EP

Fresh from releasing Body Electric EP on Running Back (RB 079EP, 2019), Deetron returns with a new compilation; presenting Photon Remixes. Four stellar re-imaginings of Deetron's iconic track from Carl Cox and Gerd Janson, the new release on Character. Originally out back in October 2014 on the same label, the track Photon on Deetron's Theory Of Light EP was a breakout hit, with avid support from both Cox and Janson, this remix package is a celebration of years of friendship and support. Gerd Janson delivers three remixes, twisting the essential elements of Photon, he manages to create playful and varied takes. Carl Cox ups the tempo on his remix, piecing together a dancefloor workout full of punchy drums and broken keys.

Deetron's debut EP for Running Back is an amalgam of some of the key virtues of both parties involved: the evocative and glorious power of the early days of rave, emotional house, melodious techno, a beatless beauty, and a firmly polished dancefloor. The EP's title track is the result of an extensive research in quiet storm soul records and their influence on traditional house music. "T-Symmetry" and "TXT" make extensive use of Roland's classic JX-8P synthesizer with very different outcomes and the certainty that the idea trumps the tools. Euphoric UK breakbeat pianos and Detroit techno soul.

Swiss producer Deetron returns to Music Man Records with Heartwalking. Fresh from releasing his DJ-Kicks mix and Storytellers (2016) with DJ Bone, Heartwalking is a two track EP playing with fast moving and melodic techno. The title track is a high energy cut which tumbles over precise drums patterns and thumping bass. The "AM Version" adds a euphoric melody, guaranteed to keep people on the dance floor until the early hours. A perfectly composed set which continues his legacy of making thoughtful and skillful dance music.

CHARACTER 006EP
|
Swiss purveyor Sam Geiser, aka Deetron, delivers his first double pack EP on his label Character: DoubleSix Takes Vol. 1. The five-tracker across two slabs of vinyl is the producer's round-up take on house music as it stands today, from the hands and ears of a well-medaled and highly fielded DJ. Having carved a long-standing reputation in both the techno and house worlds, Deetron exposes another slice of his soul here. Utilizing soul, funk, and hip-hop production techniques, the tracks are built on sampled material, much in the vein of his earlier and heavily charted tracks "Orange", "Sing" and "Silence". Derived from recordings and other noises, voices and sound sources, the samples are then craftily manipulated, processed and layered to piece different parts -- bass, percussion and so on into one original sonic universe. The opener "I Got To Have You" features a loopy vocal sample that builds towards a delicious moment of disco in the breakdown -- a throwback for the dancefloor -- but not too long. "Take Me Higher" takes things up a notch, contrasting a clean bass signal with a distorted lead while an infectious female vocal lifts up the curve. Wrapping up the first package is "The Grand Cruiser": its sluggy almost sleazy, low-end and sideways groove over a steady beat makes it an off-kilter and memorable character indeed. "Supper In Casa Blanca" immediately paints an exotic scene with shakers and a tinkling can dancing to a chance encounter with expressive synth work and a beating heart. Signing the EP off is "Blues", a hyper-smooth, jazzy galaxy ride filled with vintage suave -- don't let nobody take the blues away. Edition of 300.

CHARACTER 005EP
|
Deetron's techno run continues with his rhythmic prowess and analog textures forming perfectly on Endless EP. The title track opens like the first rays of the sun. Shimmering and ablaze, the track's thumping kick drum powers the rhythm while its euphoric bass synth drives through. In the alternate version, Deetron adds a percussive layer across the dominating bassline, while finger snaps and hypnotic synth stabs make for a lighter outing. "M1" is a bubbling techno excursion. Frantic dancing basslines rub shoulders with klaxon stabs before it dives further down the rabbit hole with its squelching and shock-laden acidic groove.

CHARACTER 003EP
|
Deetron presents the third installment on his Character label, melding the aesthetics of rave, the drive of techno, and the swing of house. "The Believer" is a direct homage to the classic sound of Detroit and Chicago, a tuff jam full of swing, clout, and hard groove. Fluctuating melodic noise sits between staunch, punchy beats before hollowed-out bass timbres pulse in polyrhythmic directions. Deetron teams up with Sebastian Kramer on "Dexterity," pitching up the tempo and stepping back from the bounce and major tonal chord hooks of the title-track for a Berghain-suited minimal romp with unnerving basslines and synth arpeggios.

CHARACTER 002EP
|
The launch of Character, the new label of Swiss DJ/producer Deetron, was announced in July of 2014 with the well-received Ripperton collaboration "Mars." 002 sees Deetron flying solo to deliver his first new EP since the release of his much-acclaimed 2013 album Music Over Matter (MM 040CD/LP). Built around a warm analog bass line, "Photon" comes in two versions with its dub version showcasing a stripped-back feel while the original confidently strides into piano-rave territory. The sound of summer still burns bright with "Photon," and this winter-warmer is set to heat floors for many months to come.

Deetron's second album finds the artist in a unique, transitional phase. The vocal element of his music coming to the fore, with Music Over Matter he proves that there is no substitute for substance and skill, putting music firmly back in the frame is the message. A prismatic mosaic of vocal textures and expertly-crafted grooves, Music Over Matter takes flight through the bounds of Deetron's musical persona, working vocals in unexpected ways through the deepest, most colorful and penetrating moments. From cranked-up four-to-the-floor and voluminous deep house grooves, to dream-sequence synths, elegant drum-programming and powerful melodic signatures, there is not a single moment of this album that won't thrill those craving a hefty interjection. Yet as motley and satisfyingly eclectic as they come, each track of the album is connected through a deep vein of soulful musicality. Joining Deetron for the trip are old friends such as Ripperton and Cooly G, who lay the foundations for the album with their opening track "Thinking" -- glitchy, scratchy techno, which blends in perfectly with Deetron's collaboration with the inimitable, cosmic surfer Seth Troxler, with whom he throws down a golden gauntlet of pitch-bent synths and heightening fervor with their hypnotic "Love Song." Deetron's hit single with Hercules & Love Affair also features. Flipping genres so elegantly, Deetron teams up with Belgian vocalist Delvis for an old-school Motor City-influenced vocal number, which is followed by the beautifully smooth vocal talents of Ben Westbeech, who produce a perfect, melody-drenched house track, which will also be Deetron's forthcoming single. Deetron's collaboration with Fritz Kalkbrenner adds a seriously unique twist to the album, with rich vocals resonating over Deetron's orchestral soundtrack. Teaming up with Justin Chapman again for "Strange Things" with Simbad along for the ride results in a gorgeous slab of deep electronic. George Maple provides the perfect vocals for "Rescue" with her ethereal vocals washing over you in pure delight. Music Over Matter also features pure instrumental tracks by Deetron. From a producer, whose unrelenting passion is the mark of his music, Music Over Matter is a reflection of the vibrant landscape upon which he so fearlessly treads. A bold, panoramic stroke that will appeal to so many more than just the intrepid nomads of the underground.

AUS 1350EP

For their 50th release, Aus Music presents a very special single-sided vinyl pressing of Deetron's single, Count on Me. As a producer, Deetron's melodic adaptations of electronica have seen him skirt the line perfectly between the soulful and the industrial and everything else in between, appealing to both techno heads and house lovers alike. Deetron has cemented his reputation as one of the most respected DJs and producers of all time, and with this single, he can add another legendary label to his name.

Deetron is on a roll with a new EP ready. "Character" is techno as you can expect it from your Swiss friend; deep but uplifting, refined but powerful. The track comes in two different versions, with the "Beats" version being more stripped-down, obviously. "Can't Love You More" drives on a catchy vocal and goes more toward the (deep) house spectrum, but with a punchy kick. Class-A material as always from Deetron.

BAL 004CD

Swiss melodic techno bastion Deetron has chosen to embrace both the past and present of mixing disciplines on Balance 20. CD1 was mixed digitally, with additional production and editing in Cubase and Wavelab, and CD2 was recorded with three turntables and an Allen & Heath mixer -- and some very special dubplates. Deetron's mix takes in seminal classics, exclusives, rare cuts, lesser-known gems, and a healthy blend of big names and underground heroes. CD1 sees the blissful tones of "Nine" from Autechre and a tease of Model 500's twinkling "Infoworld." Detroit-style beauty comes from Unabombers' take on Shit Robot's "Losing My Patience," arpeggiated proto-trance lushness from Todd Terje's "Bonysh" and hypnotic magic from DJ Koze's "The Geklöppel Continues." Move D is drafted in for some jazzy piano action on "Your Personal Healer," leading into Carl Craig's re-rub of System 7. There's a collaboration between Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Four Tet and Burial, and a little funk colors the mix via Maceo Plex. Caribou's remix of Virgo Four's "It's A Crime" ups the ante, Mr. Beatnick's "Synthetes" takes us in a different direction, and Cavalier's "Kaimanawa" brings deep house flavor to the table. Ratcliffe's take on Throbbing Gristle's "Hot On The Heels Of Love" lays its emotion-drenched chords under loops of Nicolas Jaar's detached voice, before LV, Message To Bears and Zaki Ibrahim's "Explode." A dubbed-out closing section gives way to an eccentric finale, in the form of Savage Progress' bugged-out and vampy "Heart Begin To Beat." CD2 is focused on straight-up house and techno grooves, keeping the momentum and energy high. Ripperton's "Swept Illusions" leads up to Âme's stunning reworking of Osunlade's "Envision" and the effervescent charm of Deetron's "Croque." Super Flu, Sneaker and Wbeeza enter in old skool jack mode while Reggie Dokes' piano beauty "Haiti" flies effortlessly over the top of a mysterious, snappy old skool tech house white label (Shed) -- and then Romanthony joins the party. Simon Garcia's "Tears In Vain" takes the mix to a higher plane, sublime Dutch techno leads into another Four Tet gem, and Deetron's edit of Radio Slave's "Let It Rain" ups the tension. Lone leads into actual retro techno from Derrick May, then an epic slice of Carl Craig magic -- and what better way to finish than with an exclusive dubplate from our faithful curator? Other artists include: Reno Wurzbacher, Julischkaa, Julio Bashmore, BNJM, Wishmountain, System 7, Resonance, Lawrence, Dave Aju, Avus, Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto, Andy Stott, I:Cube, Roots Panorama, Mampo Village, Mathew Jonson, Mike Dehnert, Redshape, Johanna Knutsson, Minilogue, Surgeon, Cosmin TRG, Rhythm Is Rhythm, Ronny & Renzo and C2 Cinema.

This is Deetron's debut release for Green. Whether it's creating the deepest and most soulful of house, or the grandest of emotional techno, Deetron's ability to craft exquisite, timeless pieces is second-to-none. On "Collide," Deetron's Detroit spirit is evident through the power held in its euphoric synth arpeggio, which builds constantly to its climax. "Dark Matter" is a bass-heavy, almost steppin' affair, with a darker atmosphere that is brightened temporarily by the lush pads in the break.

Finally, another Deetron record on Music Man -- and it was worth the wait. If you think there's a lack of good straightforward techno builders these days, this is one that you MUST check out, NOW. "Zircon" is a mean track and it's no wonder everyone's running up to the booth to check out what this is when you're playing it! "Orange" is a fantastic house track with a great party feel. A sure hit.

Joining the ranks of Dave Clarke, DJ Hell, Joris Voorn, Steve Bug, Shinedoe, Adam Beyer and Technasia, who have all been firm favorites at Belgium's illustrious techno mecca, Fuse, Deetron (aka Sam Geiser) now provides us all with a new live mix to add some Swiss spice to the series, including some unreleased and exclusive tracks. Splicing the likes of Fingers Inc., Marcel Dettman, Shackleton, Redshape, Henrik Schwarz, Âme, Kenneth Bager and Radio Slave, Deetron takes us on a journey as old and new, house and techno all collide in one glorious party. His first single -- as Soulmate -- was released on Phont in 1997, but possibly the most fruitful partnership of his career so far is with Belgium's Music Man label. Beginning with the Dolls For A Diva 12" in 2001, and including several more 12"s and a full-length album, Deetron now flexes his DJ muscles for the esteemed Fuse series. Fuse remains Belgium's premier techno club, and has been so since its opening in 1994. It started off as a haven for high quality techno with a reputation for bringing in the best and most innovative DJs on the scene. Alongside residents Pierre and Deg, DJs such as Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Sven Väth, Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos and lots of others seem to enjoy playing here as much as the crowd enjoys partying to their sets. Deetron joins the illustrious ranks and takes us from the deeper-edged sides of techno and the driving rhythms of house to a place where Carl Craig does battle with Spacetime Continuum, Efdemin takes on Jacopo Carreras, Henrik Schwarz joins forces with Âme and Dixon, Matthew Styles rubs shoulders with DXR and Radio Slave segues into the 1990 "lost" classic "Future" by Mr. Monday. The Fuse party machine is once again in safe hands. Other artists include: Mossa, Swayzak, Salvatore Freda & Volta, Jean Luc Ponty & Nikolaj Grandjean, Jackie Idjut, Iron Curtis, Dop, Baaz, Gene Hunt, Abicah Soul, Jerome Derradji, Adam Marshall, Todd Sines, Trus'me, Dettmann & Klock, Vengeance Tenfold, Michel Cleis & Salvatore Freda, The Lost Men and Herb Martin.

Swiss-born Deetron aka Sam Geiser unveils his debut full-length album Twisted on Belgium's esteemed Music Man imprint. As proven by his constantly expanding catalog of productions, Deetron is capable of creating tracks that sit happily within the context of a DJ set, while avoiding landing in the often throwaway category of "DJ tools." As with many of the more dynamic turntablist-styled techno and house DJs, Deetron took his early cues from hip-hop, before being won-over by the early sounds of Chicago and Detroit. His DJing -- then still in its infancy -- followed this influence, steering his career in a more 4/4 direction. Early work for labels such as Phont and Intec through the late '90s and 2000, saw Deetron finding his audience (including a string of International club jocks) and developing his own sound. Born in Bern, Switzerland, Sam's father's activities as a jazz musician ensured that he was surrounded by music from a very early age, sewing the seeds of his own musical interests. But it was hip-hop that inspired him the most: Sam soaked up the music of Gangstarr, A Tribe Called Quest and Prince Paul like a sponge and was quick to realize the role of the turntable within this context, taking up DJing in 1992. Early hip-house producers, such as Todd Terry, also captured his attention and Sam began to make the transition to more 4/4 orientated sounds -- picking up on the now-classic output of Chicago and Detroit-based electronic musicians and introducing this into the sets he was, by now, playing around his home town, and in Switzerland. His first single as Soulmate was released on the Phont label in 1997 before releasing a string of 12"s on Music Man as well as a superb mix CD that acts as ample testament to Sam's skills behind the turntables. Combining Sam's love of house, classic techno, electro, Latin and jazz influences, Twisted is a beautiful journey through an electronic landscape littered with orchestral sweeps, delicate pads, sublime Robert Owens-esque vocals, dancefloor beats and heart tugging strings. Featuring guest appearances from Subject Detroit's DJ Bone, L.A.-based singer Ovasoul7, vocalist and guitarist Justin Chapman, who is also one-half of the Atlanta-based DJ/production duo KemeticJust, and the one and only Paris The Black Fu from the Detroit Grand Pubahs. Twisted is a dancefloor journey from beginning to end. From the opening bass rumble of "Twisted Memories" to the old-school Chicago vox stylings of "Life Soundtrack" and the Drexciyan wiggle of "Isotope" to the demented refrains of "The Afterlife," Deetron shows us that techno can still conjure moments of beauty while still keeping us on the dancefloor.
