DBIRD 022EP
|
Slipping sliding bleeping chirping... the Donk Boys are well known for their innovative, freaky beats, appearing on labels like Frankie, Floppy Funk, Trapez and Kreatur. It was only a matter of time before they ran into the crew at Dirtybird in San Francisco. These three cuts are a little jazzy, a little odd, a little caveman, and a lot of fun. They fit in with jackin' house and minimal techno just the same and will be ass-wiggling party starters for sure.

TRAPEZ 086EP

The Donk Boys are Sweden's Martin Abrahamsson and Thomas Jaldemark. They have developed their own post-Chicago twisted jack-funk style that cranks it up and keeps it down. "Soffliggare" is a dead-cool jam with sensual old school vibes. "Swipper" uses the sounds of a huge clock, countered by a warm Chicago organ. "Foolfox" works like a hunt, one sound being chased by forceful percussion elements but never really being captured. Jambalaya is for those who love techno and house in one set.

"Hot on the heels of their debut EP for Frankie (Cpstyre), the Swedish newcomers Donk Boys aka Thomas Jaldemark and Martin Abrahamsson presents four new hot trax for your favorite label Floppy Funk! 'Mongoponny' shoots off this parade of sing along hits with its haunting rhythm and damaged, yet addictive, rubber-like melody, complete with a low-pitched YEAH sample, it's almost like a soundclash of Claude vonStroke vs M_nus on horse... mental that is. For the sick floors that just can't get enough! Next up is 'Zonky': almost tripping over itself with the booming sub bass, wet blops and suggestive melodic elements, this one should do the trick if you're into more minimal sounds. Moody, but still crazy funky! Flip to B-side for trunkfunk with 'Elephant': starting off with a steady shuffled beat and crisp percussion combined with warped vocal snippets, this one does not wait for anyone! Jumping straight into the mix with the pop-like lead melody, again extremely addictive, like an elephant needing to score a fix from the dealer pig. Not for the faint-hearted! Full on zoo disco action -- video game style! The finishing track is 'Gump Nymix': bringing in the old skool elements of Joey Beltram (Game Form-era), Neil Landstrumm (circa Praline Horse) and Sweden's finest Börft Records, this wonky bit is in its own way the most deranged of the four. Stripped, distorted drums (aah the RZ-1 hihat!) plus a really really stupid bassline that just keeps on going and going and going like a circuit-bent children's toy."

FRANKIE 023EP

"We're very pleased to welcome Donk Boys aka Thomas Jaldemark and Martin Abrahamsson, two talented Swedish producers from Malmö with a bunch of solo EPs out on their own (as Bauri & Thomas Jaldemark) through a subtle mix of weird elements, twisted arrangements and freaky sounds, they definitely create their own typical style... for this 23th release titled Cpstyre EP Let's start on that side with 'Cpstyre' track which is without doubt a floor burner defined by this huge distorted melodic and weird bassline in a constant evolution which can remind an old school style in the vein of Herbert or Mr. Oizo and in the same time completely in our days by using a just few elements. Looks like when minimal meets freaks. Strike!"
