Emptyset present a live recording of their performance project Signal, which explores the effects of atmospheric propagation and transmitted sound. Developed between Bristol and Berlin over the course of 2014, the performance took place in Berlin on February 1, 2015. The project worked with long-distance high-frequency radio transmission in order to bounce audio composed of sine wave structures across the atmosphere, in a process that ornamented and shaped the signal in accordance with physical fluctuations in the ionosphere, atmospheric noise, and solar radiation patterns. The signal path for the performance transmitted the audio across a real-time 2000-km circuit; the multiple atmospheric bounces imprinted into the audio introduced complex transformations of sound.

Once more James Ginzburg and Paul Purgas challenge the perceptual boundaries between noise and music and the potential for both technology and architecture to embed and codify themselves within sound. Recur is presented as Emptyset's third studio album -- continuing on from their work with Demiurge (SUB 001CD/010LP), the material examines the central themes of time, structure and recursion, through the analysis of scale and the interaction of both formal and fractured sonics. The album furthers the project's exploration of rhythm, dislocation and feedback within the framework of full frequency sound, structural abstraction and analog processing. The work examines how notions of time interact with both experience and form, and the resulting modes through which this affects sound through compression and rarefaction and the forcing of signal thresholds to their critical point.

Ununhexium is the sixth release in Raster-Noton's Unun series. Emptyset is a Bristol-based project formed by James Ginzburg, director of the Multiverse Studios and the curator and electronic artist Paul Purgas. Collapsed is Emptyset's first release on Raster-Noton and investigates the threshold where sonic structure is destabilized to the point where a chaotic order emerges. Across the four tracks a structural grammar is defined and then pushed to excess to the point where it reforms from repetitive and stable frameworks into non-grid-based forms and ultimately chaotic rule sets.

The collection of tracks explores the duo's preoccupations with the elemental properties of sound and bare, rhythmic structures and overlays it onto the textural possibilities of space and material. The project marks their first act of adapting their analog-based studio system into an architectural intervention, pushing extreme bass and feedback into the irregular spaces of the unfinished building. The rural mansion, which remains an incomplete remnant of the Gothic revival and a place studied by both architectural researchers and psychic investigators, provides a rich source of texture as the sparse palette of sine waves and noise is adorned with the intricate details of the space. Medium emerges as an act of translation, remodeling the house through sonic impulses into a state of audio, a fluid, transformative gesture and a process mirroring the sonar impulses of the bats residing within Woodchester's rooftop sanctuary. The project, supported by the Woodchester Mansion Trust, was provided technical support by the renowned Bristol-based sound engineer Mat Sampson, who managed the array of vintage microphones and preamps distributed within the building along with the central monophonic sound system. Approx. 21 minutes total playing time.

"Avichi" is stripped down to the absolute basics, consisting of little more than huge bass and an irresistible, characteristically diversified groove and some sensibly placed noises.
