OFFICE 016EP
|
Berlin-based music software technician by day and producer's producer by night, Iron Curtis (AKA Johannes Paluka), returns to Office Recordings for his third release on the label entitled And The Temper EP. The EP explores introverted tempos and timbres, while traversing a diversity of themes contained within six tracks, portraying a ying/yang of world-class analogue and digital engineering. From the meticulously programmed acid lines and dissonant chords of "010103", through to the infectiously groovy and damn right funky-and-ridiculous "Mars (Epoch Mix)", the EP closes out with a weightless cushion entitled "Strategie '98".

Iron Curtis has felt like a Polytone artist for quite a while now. He recently delivered a breathtaking remix for Matthias Vogt, and shared a split EP with Terrence Dixon. Unwind EP is his first very own EP on Polytone. "Riders" is a definite floor-filler. A subsonic bass experience of the more intensive kind -- It's a pure groover. "Cream" is a stellar ambient joint, with rhythmic elements and cosmic pads. "Unwind" has an unconventional basic groove, bleepy touches, and trademark 707 drum machine sounds. The final track is a remix from Force/Emerge and leads "Unwind" into techno territory.

MIRAU 017EP

Iron Curtis' magical debut album was Soft Wide Waist Band, and now a luscious remix record comes galloping around the corner, riding one of the most beautiful tracks on the album. "Horses" is taken apart and put back together on this 12" by the wonderful Move D, Edith Piafra & Johannes Albert, and The KDMS. Springtime bubbles from speakers like milk boiling over on an open fire with warm sounds for the springtime dancefloor. Take off your shoes and listen loud.

This is the debut album from both the Tensnake co-run label Mirau and Iron Curtis. Three years and a string of releases on Retreat, Kolour and Mule Electronic, remixes for Jacob Korn, Ripperton and Mano Le Tough and a move to Berlin later, Johannes Paluka alias Iron Curtis has matured enough as a producer to take on the heavy burden of a "house music" album. Of course, the man has earned his four-to-the-floor stripes navigation between deep house and soulful techno leanings, but he has also managed to steer clear of genre silt. Thus, the task of creating a coherent, yet amusing album without blinkers is passed with distinction here. Soft Wide Waist Band has it roots firmly planted. It streaks all the places and spaces in the past, present and future: the basic knowledge of engineering skills honed in New York, Chicago and Detroit left its traces here as much as a touch of British freewheeling mixed with the flow and indie poetry of a German country boy who has heard of electronic pop music before (guess who sang all those lovely vocal bits on the album?). While tracks like "Inner Glow" romanticize a road trip on a Midwest interstate and "Horses" offers a ride for DJs like James Holden and Dixon alike, you will meet pieces like "The Sun" that tickles the soul boy and girl in all of us, wonky, slow-motion masterpieces ("Planetarium") or the dreamy pop beat of the album's eponym. Whatever his secret is in wandering the narrow path between the norm and its deviation, Iron Curtis seems to be able to do it blindfolded. Includes mp3 download.

MULE 067EP

Iron Curtis is a Berlin-based producer, and this third release contains 3 Detroit-ish house tracks with a unique touch. The title track is reminiscent of old school Detroit house and will be simply effective in the club as a useful DJ tool for any house and techno DJs. "Save The Night" and "80 G" are a little bit more deep house style. Recommended for fans of underground house.

"Iron Curtis'pieces originate in a place simultaneously tuned to the sounds of Detroit, Chicago and Hamburg. In his home town of Nürnberg, Johannes Paluka is more familiarly known under his surname, which he goes by at the turntable. Intertwining deep-house with soulful techno in a disturbingly enchanting manner, his sound moves in the equilibrium of reduced, but never minimal. Flashes of kitsch brighten the dark universe of Iron Curtis, but fail to interfere with the melancholy subtext. Profound music for the dance floor!"
