Matthias Vogt is back on Polytone with two strong original tracks, plus legendary producer Carl Finlow adds his remix magic. The title track "Imaginary Friend" is an ode to electro, with a hint of pop and both: taking you back to the sound of the '80s, yet still sounding fresh and crisp. Carl Finlow's transforming "Imaginary Friend" into a sci-fi-something -- it's out of this world. The B-side is all about "Crevasse", a timeless beauty.

Iron Curtis has felt like a Polytone artist for quite a while now. He recently delivered a breathtaking remix for Matthias Vogt, and shared a split EP with Terrence Dixon. Unwind EP is his first very own EP on Polytone. "Riders" is a definite floor-filler. A subsonic bass experience of the more intensive kind -- It's a pure groover. "Cream" is a stellar ambient joint, with rhythmic elements and cosmic pads. "Unwind" has an unconventional basic groove, bleepy touches, and trademark 707 drum machine sounds. The final track is a remix from Force/Emerge and leads "Unwind" into techno territory.

Johannes Volk presents his debut Asteroid Riding EP. On the A-Side Volk blows the whistle of the EP's title "Asteroid Riding" with funky chords accompanied by a wide deep bassline, short samples and classic percussions and a cropped stomping kick-drum. On the B-Side "Earthbound" pounds with a broad hollow kick, arpeggiated synths, alerting sounds and a harmonically settled type of string-line that eases the element's diversity like the blue planet's gravity. Within the tracks that have been built to transport the feel of time and space, Johannes Volk again pushes himself on the cutting edge of electronic music.

YNK's second EP for Polytone is much more than a continuation of his earlier releases on Polytone and Tenderpark. It's an autonomous work, drawing on a multitude of materials to create a fluid texture of samples, synths, and drum machines and a detailed, cohesive structure. The compelling theme of opener "One-Oh-One" reemerges as a reprise on the B-side; between these moments sits Benedikt Frey's remix of "One-Oh-One," which creates a form of deepness rarely heard in his productions in a kind of introverted free electronica defying the boundaries of house and techno. Polytone Recordings is back with a three-track EP featuring two originals from Orion and a raw remix from Johannes Volk. "Gravity," a dynamic techno cut geared to the darkest dancefloors, simmers effortlessly over rumbling sooty percussion and drawn-out atmospherics. The "Beatless Version" does exactly what it says on the tin -- in fine ethereal form. Up for remix duty is Exploration head honcho Johannes Volk, known additionally for his quality output on Axis, Sistrum Recordings, and, more recently, London's Tief Music. Johannes certainly delivers, utilizing sharp modulations and oscillating synth lines to dish up a robust and hypnotic re-imagining.

This is Matthias Vogt's third installment on Polytone Recordings. With "Maintain," he proves distinct feeling for musicality once more: as Vogt is an accomplished jazz pianist, he is able to move easily between uplifting drive and harmonic substructures. The flip side features remix artists Bleak and Vince Watson. Bleak drops a hell of a Detroit vehicle. Based on significant drum grooves, his remix will ultimately shake the dancefloor to its foundations. Maintaining the spirit and the vibe of Vogt's original tune, Vince Watson takes the original track and turns it into a string and pad-driven sonic exploration, perfectly fitting Polytone's eclectic approach.

Polytone Recordings' first mini-jubilee is due, with congratulations coming in directly from Detroit and Berlin. The first felicitator is Terrence Dixon of Tresor fame. His track "Pacers" is an intriguing 10-minute journey. On the flip we find "Spirals," a stirring track from Iron Curtis. After his remix for Matthias Vogt's "Together as One," the Berlin-based producer delivers his first original for Polytone.

With YNK's 10" single, Polytone adds another musical facet to the label's eclectic approach. YNK further underlines his reputation as a highly versatile electronic producer with "The Joint": over a tricky midtempo funk beat YNK assembles various '70s soul samples, thus creating a warm atmosphere that is modern and aware of tradition at the same time. On the flip-side, Lauer takes the original and turns it into a straight and sunny house track full of classic vibes.
