Frankfurt-based Janis Guckes was socialized in the Robert Johnson Club, where he found his way to club music in the late '90s. He now produces excellent house in his own kitchen and runs the label House Is OK, where he released his first records. For Mirau, substantial Detroit numbers shuffle into line on a timeless 12". "Forgiveness" starts out with a warm sample that pumps blood straight to your dancing feet. "Greetings from the Netherworld" features a bouncing bass, echoing vocals and haunting strings. "Illusion of Choice" stamps and twists from the speakers while "Different from the Rest" shuffles in with a swinging bass line.

Iron Curtis' magical debut album was Soft Wide Waist Band, and now a luscious remix record comes galloping around the corner, riding one of the most beautiful tracks on the album. "Horses" is taken apart and put back together on this 12" by the wonderful Move D, Edith Piafra & Johannes Albert, and The KDMS. Springtime bubbles from speakers like milk boiling over on an open fire with warm sounds for the springtime dancefloor. Take off your shoes and listen loud.

Mirau presents tracks by Erobique and Alexander Polzin. "Warmer Bruder": The jeep's motor is already purring as Erobique switches on the car radio. He spins the tires, pushing up a cloud of dust. The cowbells clatter on the back seat as yet another warm synth wave washes the jeep up to the nearest club. "Früchtchen": an omnipresent kick marches throughout the tenacious, mounting mass of melody textures and harmony particles. "Früchtchen" is a ship without a sail, without a motor.

This is the debut album from both the Tensnake co-run label Mirau and Iron Curtis. Three years and a string of releases on Retreat, Kolour and Mule Electronic, remixes for Jacob Korn, Ripperton and Mano Le Tough and a move to Berlin later, Johannes Paluka alias Iron Curtis has matured enough as a producer to take on the heavy burden of a "house music" album. Of course, the man has earned his four-to-the-floor stripes navigation between deep house and soulful techno leanings, but he has also managed to steer clear of genre silt. Thus, the task of creating a coherent, yet amusing album without blinkers is passed with distinction here. Soft Wide Waist Band has it roots firmly planted. It streaks all the places and spaces in the past, present and future: the basic knowledge of engineering skills honed in New York, Chicago and Detroit left its traces here as much as a touch of British freewheeling mixed with the flow and indie poetry of a German country boy who has heard of electronic pop music before (guess who sang all those lovely vocal bits on the album?). While tracks like "Inner Glow" romanticize a road trip on a Midwest interstate and "Horses" offers a ride for DJs like James Holden and Dixon alike, you will meet pieces like "The Sun" that tickles the soul boy and girl in all of us, wonky, slow-motion masterpieces ("Planetarium") or the dreamy pop beat of the album's eponym. Whatever his secret is in wandering the narrow path between the norm and its deviation, Iron Curtis seems to be able to do it blindfolded. Includes mp3 download.

Alin Crihan alias Aeromaschine is a DJ/producer from Romania, and this is his innovative debut EP on Mirau. What at first sight appear to be minimalistic, funky house tracks hypnotically wind their way into your dancing shoes and burst into pulsing groove-shapes. The innocent thrill of these deep loops and squandered samples will squeeze you onto the dancefloor. Marcus Worgull contributes an ageless remix that floats like spherical haze.

Copenhagen's Tomas Barfod and Kasper Bjørke's first 12" under their new moniker Bjørke & Barfod, with a new sound perhaps best described as symphonic disco-trance, definitely marks a turning point in their collaboration. "Superbacon" is an epic, big room track with enough live drums and sexy house elements to make it work in smaller clubs as well. The remix of "Cauliflower" comes from Brooklyn's finest, Runaway, who brings rave back in a big way.

The amiably-deranged Erdbeerschnitzel is the alias of Tim Keiling, half of whose life has been spent making music. "To An End" is full of glittering soul essence that guarantees a perspiring spell of hopping and swaying, and "I Wonder" bursts forth with funk euphoria. This release comes with a hypnotic Tuff City Kids (Phillip Lauer and Gerd Janson) remix. Every time they meet at the P&G Music Factory, these kids show a love of cheesy snares and cheeky vocals.

"Who are these guys behind the pseudonyms? Good Guy Mikesh and Filburt are two music lovers: FULL STOP! Two independent acts that met in Leipzig and began to merge their musical creative capacities two years ago. A convolution of disco, pop and house, propagating one of Leipzig's most promising collaborative developments. Good Guy Mikesh has haunted Leipzig's contemporary underground for a long time. From the beginning of his musical career, his singles (published on Lebensfreude Records and Broque.de) have signified an eclectic mix of pop, soul and disco. Filburt - DJ, record store owner and Leipzig club scene veteran, was consequently Good Guy Mikesh's best possible accomplice in the mission to break fresh ground. This mixture of soul, disco and house-pop is IT, charged by the duo's certain something - an energy sought for not only in this town, but throughout the whole scene. Someone Told Me, their latest single, has been causing an outbreak of contagious enthusiasm in the scene since its release on Permanent Vacation. We are proud to release this fine EP, which comes with a remix by one of our UK favorites: Mark E!"

"Iron Curtis'pieces originate in a place simultaneously tuned to the sounds of Detroit, Chicago and Hamburg. In his home town of Nürnberg, Johannes Paluka is more familiarly known under his surname, which he goes by at the turntable. Intertwining deep-house with soulful techno in a disturbingly enchanting manner, his sound moves in the equilibrium of reduced, but never minimal. Flashes of kitsch brighten the dark universe of Iron Curtis, but fail to interfere with the melancholy subtext. Profound music for the dance floor!"

Arp Aubert's debut release, the Actress EP hit that deep, murky pool known as heartbrokenness with a resounding splash. Played by Jennifer Cardini, DJ Koze and Alex Smoke, Arp Aubert's three new tracks do without vocals and cavort even more courageously this round, infused with minimal funkiness. Those gloomy clouds seem to have passed. Ladies and gentlemen, let us dance!

Tensnake continues to advance the belief in the dynamism of a good sock hop on I Say Mista, where cosmic synthie gales and spring reverb-claps abound. Once again, Tensnake works with remix support from Audision, evoking an eerily pleasant '90s weekend atmosphere. "Look to the Sky" rounds it all out with airiness.

The artist formerly known as "wildjamin" started his career by producing ambient in the early nineties. In 1996, his focus turned to house/minimal dance music -- inspired by the vivid Frankfurt (underground/house) scene. When he moved to Hamburg in 1999 a series of fine minimalistic records were released on labels like Perlon, Kompakt, Force Tracks, Festplatten. 2002 saw his first album: With Compliments followed by Wie es sein wollte in 2003. Demain is bouncing, groovy minimal tech-house from a perfectionist master.

Two knob-turning buddies team up for solid sounds: Hamburg-based Marco Niemerski and Stephan Lorenz -- 2/3 of Miraumusik and... Arp Aubert. Blackbirds chirp, squirrels growl, bears prance around the bass' fall-trap. Musically drawn to track and club sounds, at times dark, at times playful, but always with utmost resolution. Fellow passenger on the bandwagon is singer/songwriter Jan Gazarra, who contributes lyrics and vocals in the title track. He dedicates himself to completing the sequel to his solo album, which appeared in 2002 at Ladomat, prancing the electronic stage with the Stoned Eagles disguised as a cat, or commanding the guitar in recordings with the band Black Star.
