VD 018EP
|
Strong one on Voyage Direct from Rotterdam's Benny Rodrigues. Here are two undulating, hypnotic, heads-down tracks that blur the boundaries between house and techno. Rhythmically loose but impressively tough -- like all of Rodrigues' best productions -- both cuts are built around mesmerizing late-night grooves and intoxicating chords. "Master French" kicks things off, lacing nagging shakers, subtle synth strings and fluttering chords over a robust, shuffling tech-house groove. Rodrigues works the mix like a master, bringing elements to the fore before sliding them into the background. "Z" is an altogether breezier affair, with repetitive, new age-inspired synthesizer melodies seemingly drifting over a rock-solid house groove.

WOLF 030EP
|
Dutch legend and Wolfskuil inner circle member Benny Rodrigues returns to the label for a fresh 12". "The Choice Is Mine" might be the most freaked-out and modulated exercise Benny has yet to unleash upon the world. No four bars in this mental trip are the same, ever-evolving around a sequence that brings old '90s warehouse techno to mind. A peak-time monster like this deserves a royal rework, and Berghain resident/Dystopian head-honcho Rødhåd happily agreed to give his own unique vision of the original. The result is stunning, psychedelic and with a little unexpected surprise.

DESOLAT 027EP
|
Benny Rodrigues' recording career goes way back to early collaborations with Afrojack or Darko Esser; as Rod, he releases on Klockworks and CLR, has remixed Josh Wink and DJ Pierre. Somewhere between relentless prime-time techno and stripped-down house grooves, with woozy chords carried on a jet-stream of tight rhythms, this will be your favorite Benny Rodrigues release.

BAO 029EP
|
Dutch producer Benny Rodrigues has pushed his career forward both in the studio and the DJ booth, having remixed people such as Josh Wink, DJ Pierre, Justice and Spirit Catcher and released on Ovum, Poker Flat, Figure and Klockworks. His interpretation of acid house takes form on this EP and it sure sounds classic -- acid synth madness like in the old days but with an updated touch. Remixes by Sterac aka Steve Rachmad and Mike Dehnert.

FIGURE 023EP
|
"Rotterdam's Benny Rodrigues is already a well known force in the Dutch techno fraternity. His releases on Be As One and Spinclub have cemented his tough, modern-meets old school take on dancefloor techno as some of the grooviest around. 'Fake Stab,' co-produced with Kapuchon, is a spacy roller that revolves around classic Detroit-influenced stab action, floating on top of a bass heavy and pumping bottom end. Tight, crisp and clearly designed for the floor, its a cool trip full of tricky percussion and immense bass pressure (what else would you expect from Figure!) Taking us back into the realms of the masters, 'Woest' is a real burner. Tough, raw and uncompromising, it's a stomping stab-jack like no other. Reminiscent of a certain Mr Hood's punchy warehouse jams, it's filled with the type of purist techno intensity that makes it totally irresistible in the club and beyond."

BAO 015EP

"Benny Rodrigues produces a package that lives up to its name. I Like EP oozes influences from Detroit techno and masters a current take on an age-old sound. 'I Like' is delicious, wrapped in vintage sounds, it creates a true party atmosphere. 'Reel' is coproduced with fellow Dutch musician Kapuchon. This is the sound of old school flavours, tearing into the past and the present and creating a winning formula. Benny Rodrigues was born and raised in Rotterdam, and held residencies at some of Holland most influential clubs from the age of 17. He has toured with his musical hero, the legendary Josh Wink, been asked twice to perform at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival and headlined and closed the legendary dance-festivals Dancevalley, Mysteryland and Extrema. Somewhere along the road, Benny met the rookie Nick van de Wall aka Kapuchon (aka Afrojack for his more mainstream appealing productions). They decided to combine their passion of music, resulting in coproductions for White Noise Records, Spinclub Records and others. This is Benny Rodrigues first release for the Israeli imprint, Be As One. His releases have begun to find allegiances with artists such as Steve Bug, Radioslave and Be As One's own Shlomi Aber. Being regularly charted and played by the best, Benny is stepping into the global arena."
