2DIY4 024EP
|
Allan Shotter's second EP on 2DIY4 tells his very personal story of that excruciating question that reads "What if I had been more present? Could I have contributed to stopping this?" A harrowing feeling that came to him after the recent passing of his mother, who has been through a long, arduous, but ultimately unsuccessful chemo therapy cancer treatment. During these strenuous months, producing music was his place of refuge; a sanctuary to receive his manifold emotions. And this diversity in feelings is what you can hear on Das Gift. Being overwhelmed. Feeling powerless. Drowning in uncertainty. Anger. Sadness. Being forced to wait. Hope. Hopelessness. Four tracks of raw honesty. What would you die for? The chance to go back.

False promises, true emotions. It isn't what you say, but how you say it. What you mean. How you act. UNDERHER delivers slow, sensual tales of heartbreak. Complex rhythms sounding like the feeling in your chest when you find out your lover has been unfaithful. The chilling voices of Neev, Liz Cass, and October's Child add a sweet sincerity to the dramatic compositions of Montreal-born, Berlin-based Khaled Bess, better known as UNDERHER, and together create the three tracks that make listening to the False Promises EP so worthwhile.

Cassini is Allan Shotter's first solo EP. In such slow epicness begins the ethereal "Intro", like the first ray of sun that has ever climbed over the mountaintops to kiss the valley. As time goes by, you're taken from orbis to urbs, to the timeless here and now, into each individual's minds ("Los"). A fast-paced, clockwork machine music suddenly lights up and becomes highly emotional and nuanced electronica ("Cassini"); oddball jungle noises quiet down and arrange orchestrally, creating a subtle cinematic score ("Akihabara"); the shy ballad turns into a magnificent drama ("British Exit").

Hailing from Germany as two definitive individuals -- minds&machines exemplify the hybrid human/electronic chorale. "The rules are, there are no rules" -- a perfect embodiment of the minds&machines ethos and that of the new generation of electronic music producers. Primarily drawing on influences of garage, electronica, and restless ambient, the German duo's music encapsulates that moment of human loneliness but gratitude at 3am on a wet, urban street. Silenced / Nothing, has hints of garage, electronica, and ambient, all very much remaining on a divergent route.

The third release under the new identity of 2DIY4 is an up-close look into the soul of Daniel Alexander. Traumatology -- a subjective perspective that is so universally alike within anyone who questions. "The motif of the spiritual response to our environment and our socio-political climate is what ties these songs together," Daniel Alexander says. A subtle feeling of estrangement with society becomes an immensely overwhelming sensation. Traumatology is a testimony of an everyday struggle against despair and the question if there can be deliverance that couldn't be any more sincere.

2DIY4 ("to die for"), the sublabel of Diynamic Music, embarks on a new journey. With this release, 2DIY4 starts a new chapter in its history, turning away from the classic 4/4 house formula and towards new, outstanding and sincere indie down-tempo electronica music. The first artist under the label's new identity is Lunar Plane, consisting of identical twin brothers Emre and Mert from Istanbul. They answered: "We would die for each other, so the first thing comes to mind is twinhood." Together with LA-based October's Child on the vocals, they deliver the first of many chilling electronica EPs for 2DIY4.

Berlin-based duo Vittoria Fleet creates an EP that rubs salt into the wound. Singer Giada Zerbo captures the essence of the emotions of dealing with a shitty loved one with her ethereal and sultry voice, while producer Allan Shotter creates an organic electronica soundscape. "Entangled" hits you with its raw energy of slow violence. "Return" is the wish to bring your loved one back onto the right path. "Headradio" is the battle between closeness and dislodgement. The duo asks: how much responsibility do we carry for the other one? Is it ok to parent our struggling lover?

2DIY4 present an EP of Moby remixes. Swiss duo Adriatique remix "Wait For Me" - preserving the original's piano line, the pair use a deep bassline and rearrange the breathy vocals for a more dancefloor facing version of the original. Magdalena takes on "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" - a stomping build-up utilizes elements of the original's percussion over a rumbling sub bass. Johannes Brecht's take on "Natural Blues" features the original piano motif, a grooving bass line and more prominent vocals. Stimming uses an old school build up approach for his percussive remix of "Natural Blues".

Solomun reveals his latest remix for popular NYC rock band Interpol. Taken from Interpol's latest album El Pintor, "Everything Is Wrong" has been given a dancefloor-ready makeover from Solomun. His remix preserves the gritty guitar line, adding a subtle but deep bassline and echoed percussion. The vocals are slightly tweaked, their electronic twang reminiscent of '80s bands. As Solomon's strings slowly grow throughout the track. Solomun's remix of "Everything Is Wrong" preserves the mood and melody of the original, yet is a clearly recognizable production of his own. Includes MP3-codes.

Italian producer Lehar follows releases on Connaisseur Recordings with his debut on 2DIY4. "Number One Hero (feat. Rush Midnight)" is truly emotive, with delicate synth melodies and warm, lush chords adding heartfelt vibes to the punchy drums. The remix by Musumeci, who runs his own Engrave LTD label and gets support from Dixon and Âme among others, is much more stripped back and reworks the track into a broody, rubbery, fulsome house cut. Peter Pardeike (a Cologne-based producer who has often worked with Marcus Worgull) goes just as deep with his remix adding a sense of elegance to the groove with angelic pads.

Berlin-based band Abby's "Halo" is a stirring, deeply moody electronic cut with emotive vocals, lush guitars, floating atmospheres, and slowly tumbling beats; it glistens and glows with rich musicality. H.O.S.H.'s "Boy Mix" layers in some frazzled chords, a rising sense of tension, and big rubbery drums. The vocals remain in refracted form and edgy synth sounds really make the track sound urgent and compelling. His "Girl Mix" is another textured affair with squelching percussion and whirring machines married to lush, organic synths and pads. Thyladomid's remix takes a melancholic, low-slung style with piano chords and pads wrapped round the rubber beats.

Solomun follows his 2014 Lana Del Rey remixes with two remixes of "Atlas World" by UK band Liu Bei, released in advance of his summer 2015 return to Pacha Ibiza with his own Solomun + 1 night, with the likes of Dixon, Sven Väth, Pachanga Boys, DJ Tennis, and more performing on Sunday nights. Solomun's first remix here is an electronica version, patient and slow-burning, with somber piano chords and blissfully, subtly uplifting synths. The second is more aligned with tech house; the bass is much darker, the beats are more purposeful, and there is a real sense of tension.

For years, Robosonic have been building a reputation as DJs for murdering dancefloors worldwide as well as performing their own multidimensional electronic music. Together with the Adana Twins from Hamburg, they present an EP on 2DIY4. The first track is made up of melodic disco, funk-inspired tunes and easy bass lines. The lovely vocal adds further feelings of recklessness and freedom which will immediately get you to dance. "Barracuda" takes a darker approach with its dirty bass line, still combining disco-infected vocals.

Mathy K. & The Funky Punch is an urban legend and a tale told by party addicts. The internet reveals several hints on his person, which are however, not officially confirmed. Initial Mathy K. & The Funky Punch activities were recorded in the '80s. After decades of desire for his music and a legendary live concert in New York, his first official EP will be released. The sound of cosmic disco influenced the EP, but Mathy K. converted it into a distinctive mikro-cosmic-uptempo disco-sound.

2019 repress. What would a Stimming track sound like when it's played by a real, 64-person orchestra? Well, you're about to find out. On side B there is the original version of "November Morning" featuring blue, melancholy house chords with a pseudo violin, field recordings and a whistle. Side A involves more than 60 musicians from the Brandenburg State Orchestra, making this work a unique classical experience.

Belgium-based Kolombo debuts on this Diynamic sub-label. "My Own Business" has a strong kick and bass to start things off, and the tension on this release rises on every track. "Whatever U Like" tightens the style with melodic basslines. "Busta Ass" is a melodious ear-worm not only fit for the club. "Dancing On The Floor" is the track with the most energy.

2DIY4 presents two tracks by Hamburg indie-band Pool and their remixes by Solomun and Stimming. This is the debut release by Pool, who were founded by Daniel Husten, Nils Hansen and David Stoltzenberg. It's a classic three piece band of guitar, bass, drums and vocals showcasing a multicolored sound. "Game Over" is a straightforward pop song and Solomun's remix is a funky interpretation. "Don't Call My Name" is an immediate groover and Stimming's remix is a real viber.
