CONNECTED 054EP

After more than a decade at the forefront of underground electronic music, Re.You puts all his vast experience into a long-awaited debut album on Connected, breathing new life into house music. Maison is a bold artistic statement across nine tracks featuring guests and label bosses Stereo MCs, plus Florian Busse & Ahmad, Elli, and Aaaron & Oluhle. German artist Re.You is Marius Maier, a producer who runs his own Younion label and continues to innovate with his edgy house and tech-fueled productions. As well as on releasing Connected, he has seen his music issued on Moon Harbour, Kompakt and Mobilee and manages to transcend fashions and scenes with his unique sound. After many years in Berlin, he moved to Paris, and found himself full of new ideas, inspired by the city and its creative energy. As such, most of this new album was written in the French capital. He was there for just six months but as Marius says "it was a truly inspiring place and time, so I thought I would give the album a French name. 'Maison' means home. That's what I feel now I'm back in my German hometown Ulm after ten years of Berlin and a short stay in Paris. I feel now is a good time to release my debut album on Connected, a platform on which I always felt at home."

As a long-time friend of the Connected label, Le Croque makes his debut with Melancholia EP, a superb single that comes with a remix from Themba. At the forefront of the ever-growing Greek Afro-house scene and part of the Madorasindahouse team, Le Croque has also released on Open Bar Music and King Street, and DJed alongside such legends as Black Coffee, Adam Port and &Me. For this release he teams up with Berlin-via-Munich vocalist HRRSN who came to electronic music from soul and R&B and has released on such labels as Stil Vor Talent, Suol, and Noir Music. This latest partnership leads to a beautiful deep slice of electronic hypnosis on "Melancholia." The track has a driving rhythm that is sparse and simple, with lush keyboard refrains and vocals soaring in the drop. It is the sort of majestic and melodic offering that will make for a fantastic high point in any set, while the dub keeps things even deeper for more intimate moments. Remixer Themba has swiftly risen to prominence over the last few years and is at the forefront of the South African house scene. Here, he delivers a sharp and striding groove that is joined by stabbing bass, with fading, string-like notes, and dubbed vocal refrains taking things to another level as HRRSN comes into the spotlight and delivers a message from the heart. This is a subtle but celebratory house package packed with plenty of emotion.

Aaaron continues his journey through mystic synthesis with his fifth EP for Connected, Cosmic Soul EP. On "Cosmic Soul", a rhythm section playing robotic funk against an esoteric drone meets a melancholic piano refrain and pleading vocal monotones that go dubwise. Synthetic textures reminiscent of Blade Runner 2049 form a backdrop for a skeletal drum figure on "Mercy", as soft Kraftwerk-like notes filter in-and-out. Imagine a classical symphony based on two or three chords, revolving and hypnotizing, set against a drumscape of toms and unnaturally pitched and distorted snares. You've got "It's Not Over".

Skatman (Aziz Haddad) is a Tunisian-born, Berlin-based producer, DJ, and label head of Scatcity. Since moving to Berlin, Skatman and Scatcity's sound has evolved into an ongoing homage to his particular experience between his current home Berlin and his young years in North Africa. '80s synth pop, four-to-the-floor house, techno, and cinematic scores have all played into forming his melodic electronic sound. This upcoming release showcases the different angles of his wide range of influences and inspirations. The four-track sampler is designed as a taster, but with full volume DJ friendly vinyl.

Floyd Lavine and David Mayer's Afro house bomb "Sondela" gets remixed by a carefully selected list of names including Jimpster, Auntie Flo, Tunnelvisions, and Kususa. Jimpster serves up a cool and immersive journey bringing new soul and feeling to the original. Dutch duo Tunnelvisions masterfully flip the track "Xi". Kususa pump up the beats: their percussion, arps and big synths will get hands in the air. Highlife artist Auntie Flo brings his authentic understanding of worldly groove to a fantastic remix. An acapella version is also included as an exclusive addition to the vinyl release.

The first LP release for Connected comes from Nandu and as with his previous release, Another Jam EP (CONNECTED 022EP, 2018), One Mans High Is Another Mans Anxiety is a unique genre-crossing palette containing elements from deep house, house, Afrohouse, electronic techno and beyond brought together in Nandu's original style. One Mans High Is Another Mans Anxiety is truly an album that begs to be listened to from start to finish. In Nandu's own words: "One man's high can truly be, another man's anxiety. In some parts of life, this is very clear, like having a baby, doing drugs, to work, not to work, be an artist, be a banker and so it continues. Yin and yang and the whole idea of duality is another way to describe this. When you go left you say goodbye to right, at least for the moment you choose left. What you choose is up to you. It wasn't always my dream to get up at 3AM to change diapers, but it was always my dream to have a family. And here, the sacrifice is not even mentionable. It's more than worth it. But when you sometimes in life make a choice that you regret but which always will follow you, or when uncontrollable powers force you into another direction, it can easily switch the poles between high and low. In these cases you just have to look forward, but not without looking back. You need to learn, take it with you, and do better next time. This album is about how my highs also can be my anxieties."

Following up their highly acclaimed debut collaboration Last Day On Earth, or L.D.O.E. (CONNECTED 020EP, 2017), the trio from Berlin took it literally and decided to leave this planet's orbit behind. "Prologue (Don't Panic)" sets the tone for the journey to come. Harmonious but pulsing, the traveler leaves the earths gravitational force to reach the title track. "Moon" is an emotional touching and growing deep house art piece. "Point Of No Return" at last leaves the bounding limitations of contemporary club music behind by exploring a completely distinct soundscape, even referencing a certain '80s pop vibe.

David Mayer and Floyd Lavine team up for their own release on Connected. "Sondela", featuring Xolisa, is a beautiful almost nomadic journey through pulsing beats, tense percussion, and snatches of electrifying music. A thrilling and compulsive ride. "XI" is A deep smoky pulsing late-night percussive dancefloor thriller with mysterious synth lines, bringing to mind urban dystopia. "Sondela", the Floyd Lavine Drum Version, is stripped down, emphasizing the bare beats, percussion, and vocal, creating a tribal atmosphere.

Nandu returns for his second release on Connected with another unique pair of tracks, the first an African influenced song with the mesmerizing vocals of Oluhle, the second a 909 style acid dark dancefloor workout. "Umfazi Omuhle (Original Mix)" is a gentle almost cautious arrangement building slowly and ethereally with a beautiful selection of sounds and an African influenced rhythm. "Another Jam (Another Acid Dub)" is more aggressive and up-front with a twisted groove of claps and percussion, and a proper 909 kick drum and hot acid line coming in halfway through.

"Original" and "Dub": Aaaron joins forces with newcomers Deckert and singer Valentine to unveil the new title track for Connected. While Aaaron provides a sub heavy African inspired groove pattern and combines it with Deckert's intense harmonies, Valentine finishes off the track with her touching voice performance and lyrics that are both melancholic and deep. Floyd Lavine's "African Techno Mix" and "African Techno Dub": Floyd soaks up everything that was happy, bright, and ancestral and pushes it straight into the void twisting it into a hypnotic techno chant. Perfect for a rough peak-time approach or the early morning hours.

David Mayer needs little introduction. Affiliated with the flourishing Keinemusik label, his output as a producer and a DJ since the mid-2000s has been massive, forging his name as an expert in funked-up, pounding, deep techno and house. On "Drained (feat. Sooma)," Sooma's mesmerizing, pensive vocals keep the floor gripped before the silky bass action makes its presence felt, relentlessly adding to the vibrant atmosphere. "Movement" is classic David Mayer in techno mode, starting low-key and building up with tight electrifying synths until the kick comes in.

After his memorable Wolves EP of 2016, Florian Busse returns to Connected for Heus EP, retaining and developing his idiosyncratic sound sculpting. "Heus" is a hypnotic tom and bass groove, heavy on atmosphere and noise with foreign and far-away synthesizers and a deceptive bass note. "Intro" is a good, slowly-built starter for any DJ set: child-like voices, steady synthesizer notes coming and going, and a low bass creating an intense beginning before a minimal beat kicks in. "Guem" builds with a steady bass note, a waylaying, moody synthesizer theme, tastefully selected drums, and joined by weird bird-like sounds.

Aaaron presents Entropy EP on Connected. Aaaron is closely associated with Rampa, Kalyma and Florian Busse, among other minimal deep/tech house explorer. "Entrop" is a gleaming dark R'n'B house track featuring Hazel & Carolina Meleán. Metal-ish percussion and a hypnotic brass sounds make this a great warm-up or after-hours track. "War Chant" has a drone-ish string sound and a lead sound that brings the right amount of trance. "Yuggoth" is a warehouse inspired, tool room techno with hypnotic vocals and an old school feeling "Stomp" is Afro-house, original Aaaron track.

Terranova and Stereo MC's present Connected In Dub. With "004remedy", Terranova return with an uncompromising groove punctuated by Stereo MC's vocal chant. Dennis Bovell, legendary producer, remixes Stereo MC's "Turnaround", a mix of modern electronics and old school live dub mixing - layers of drum repeats and Hammond organ reverberations. The "004remedy" remix by Aaaron, that glides down a psychedelic Apocalypse Now river of synthetic structures with a stealthy groove and tense percussion. "Turnaround" Brixton Dub is a return to old school looping and chopping to create a more hypnotic version.

They Vibed is the second release for Re.You on Connected. "They Vibed", featuring Lazarusman, is a machine-like groove with driving pistons and staggering drum stabs rising with the introduction of shakers and bass synth pulse - easy riding and freeform. "Try To Sleep" is an energetic, springy groove that feels like an early summer day with hypnotic, spiral movements in synthesis and female cinematic whispers and shimmering hi-hats and a very 808'esque feel to the groove. The vinyl version of "They Vibed" strips down the original, providing a minimal, drone landscape.

The first release on Stereo MC's and Terranova's Connected label follows the artists' acclaimed collaboration "Tell Me Why" from Terranova's 2015 album Restless (KOMP 123CD/KOM 327LP) and presents two tracks from the artists' 2016 collaborative album. Terranova crafted the rugged, grainy see-sawing bass, icy hi hats, and coarse claps of "Deeper" with gear ranging from '50s valve compressors and mixer to '70s analog and '80s digital outboard and effects. "Turnaround" is a kinetic, hypnotic roller that pairs flying, pitch-shifted, harmonized rimshot orgies with a deep vocal performance on fluid, heavy grooves. Includes a vinyl-only "Acapella" version.
