An emblematic actress and a memorable figure of the French chanson scene, Jeanne Moreau passed away in 2017. She started singing as an amateur in theatre like the Comédie Française, but always wanted "to sing ballads". The man who wrote her first songs was her friend: the painter Cyrus Bassiak (pseudonym of Serge Rezvani) and like for many other artists Jacques Canetti was the one who brought her to a recording studio to record her first songs in 1963. Le Tourbillon De Ma Vie (Best Of 2017) pays homage to Jeanne Moreau by compiling for the very first time all the songs written by Cyrus Bassiak, including four songs that were nowhere to be found until today. Le Tourbillon De Ma Vie (Best Of 2017) comprises recordings made between 1963-1967 and includes unreleased songs. Includes 20-page booklet with exclusive pictures and notes from Jeanne Moreau, François Truffaut, and Cyrius Bassiak.

Paris, 1954. Henri-François Rey wrote the theme of the piece La bande à Bonnot and asked Boris Vian to write the songs for what would become a musical comedy. "La Bande à Bonnot" was the name of a French illegal anarchist group that operated in France and Belgium from 1911 to 1912, and as soon as the piece was played at Théâtre du Quartier Latin in 1968, French authorities demanded that it be stopped, and musical parts were subsequently lost. In 1971, Legendary French record executive, talent agent, and producer Jacques Canetti learned that the original handwritten lyrics of Boris Vian's songs had been found. Canetti asked Louis Bessières to recreate musical parts, and in 1975, Canetti released this record with Vian's songs performed by Judith Magre, Yves Robert, Lucienne Vernay, Pierre Jamet, Kim Ibarra, Maurice Barrier, and Cécile Vassort. This first-ever vinyl reissue includes two bonus tracks originally intended for inclusion in La bande à Bonnot: "La Java Des Chaussettes À Clous" by Jacques Higelin and "L'Anguille" by Magali Noël. Remastered sound; gatefold sleeve.

Winner of the 2014 Grand Prix du Disque from the Académie Charles Cros, the premier French award for musical recordings. French actor Pierre Arditi reads Histoire d'une Jeunesse (Story of My Youth by Elias Canetti (winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1981), with music by Eric Slabiak. The Arditi and Canetti families are very close -- Elias Canetti's mother was Mathilde Arditi -- so Canetti's story deals with the story of Arditi's family as well. Gatefold sleeve.

Born in Italy in 1921, Yves Montand began his career as a professional singer in 1938, at the age of 16. His promising beginning was interrupted by World War II, and he was unable to perform regularly until 1944, when he opened for Édith Piaf. The two became a couple, and toured France in the fall and spring of 1945. Montand began making appearances in French and American films, singing stage favorites from his repertoire, and won acclaim as a serious actor for his lead role in Henri-Georges Clouzot's Le salaire de la peur (The Wages of Fear) (1953). As a singer, he toured the world from 1960 through 1962, performing in America, England, and Japan. He continued to work in cinema throughout the '60s and '70s, and became an international star. His legacy as an actor is well-known, but his contribution to French chanson is equally significant. Talent agent and producer Jacques Canetti, with whom Montand worked, noted that "most of Yves Montand's songs have become classics because he had the intelligence and instinct to choose themes that are timeless." Grands Boulevards collects highlights from Montand's long career, including "Les Feuilles Mortes," "C'est Si Bon," "A Paris," "Le Gamin de Paris," and more.

"Born in Saint John in 1827 or 2043 (depending on the inspiration of the moment), Brigitte Fontaine, besides the cult singer that everyone knows, is a writer. Actress, playwright, novelist and poet, she tries to reconcile opposites from the beginning of time until the end of time that will never take place. Because life starts now. And now. And now. Is she really here? No. She is, like all true poets, a unique inhabitant of an interior castle to which she occasionally invites visitors, through her books, records, and shows. Her repertoire... reveals its sensitivity in prosody constrained by rules of versification, and, conversely, in the vivid freedom and free verse of prose poems. Some say crazy, eccentric and disturbed. In truth, she bothers because her sensitivity and fragility refer to the extreme center of the human condition; the axis of the world, she said, "is all of us, since all world is the center of the world'" --Benoît Mouchart, author of Brigitte Fontaine, intérieur/extérieur (2008). Jacques Canetti Productions presents a reissue of Brigitte Fontaine's debut album, 13 chansons décadentes et fantasmagoriques, originally released in 1966. Orchestra arranged and conducted by Jimmy Walter. Recorded in March 1966 in Paris by André Touaty.

Armenian-French singer-songwriter and actor Charles Aznavour was born on May 22, 1924, in Paris. In 1946 he was noticed by Édith Piaf, which led to him recording his first album, Roche et Aznavour, in 1948 with pianist and composer Pierre Roche and producer Jacques Canetti. His career exploded and he released a string of successes, including the songs "Tu t'laisses aller," "Il faut savoir," "Les comédiens," and "For Me Formidable." In the decades since, his repertoire has expanded to hundreds of titles (after recording his eight hundredth song in 2000, he declared, "When I get a thousand, I will stop singing and open a record store"). Jacques Canetti Productions presents an anthology highlighting the best moments in his incredible and prolific career.
