REKIDS 007CD
|
UK production legend, Mr G, releases his debut solo album on Radio Slave's infamous Rekids imprint. Mr G was once one-half of The Advent (with Cisco Ferreira), producing ground-breaking releases, remixes and albums, and touring the world with their intense, relentless style of techno; selling tens of thousands of records. Mr G went alone in 1999, founding his own label Phoenix G, creating a unique brand of analog, bass-heavy, electronic tech-funk, which immediately attracted props from his peers and the music press alike. In 2006, Mr G hooked up with Rekids and released the fourth-ever EP for the label -- E.C.G.'ed, followed by U Askin? in 2007 and Makes No Sense in 2008. Four years later, he releases his debut solo album on the Rekids imprint. "I had known Matt (Radio Slave) for years, via mutual respect for each others' music, so it was great to work with him. I truly feel that the Rekids crew do it right." Mr G still uses his MPC and does his cuts and drops for the album LIVE. Mr G loves to take a risk with the analog -- how high, how low, will it distort -- it's all part of the Mr G sound.

Canadian James Teej releases his solo album on Radio Slave's Rekids imprint. Evening Harvest is a selection of material that Teej wrote over a 6-month period in the first half of 2009. With an emphasis on deep techno and house, the album is a journey through an array of different musical sounds and moods, with Teej also adding his own soulful vocals to the music. The tracks were written to be deep listening pieces, while also being DJ-friendly. Evening Harvest is the culmination of 14 years spent listening to, DJing, writing and producing electronic music, and represents the diversity of sounds he is deeply passionate about. In 1997, he released his first EP on his self-created label Reflection Records, under the name James T. From here, he began DJing at afterhour parties, warehouse raves and festivals, everywhere from his hometown to the Rocky Mountains. In 2005, Teej made the move to Canada's main stage, Toronto, where he set up a studio with long-time friend Nitin. Remixes for Trentemøller, Tobey Tobias and Solee followed, as did releases on Rebirth, My Favourite Robot and Connect Four Records. Evening Harvest also features collaborations with dOP and Richard Hennessey, and in addition, Teej's own soulful vocals are woven into the deep techno and house of the album.

Mysterious producer possibly from South America with a hypnotic Inca shaman dance ritual. Little is known about the release other than it sounds like a cross between Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin and Danny Tenaglia. Club and crowd reactions were so strong, Rekids felt they HAD to sign it.

This is the debut full-length release by London's Toby Tobias. This promoter and resident DJ of the long-running "Late Night Audio" uses his experience to build on his successful singles on Rekids (A Close Shave, Dave's Sex Bits, and Nervoso EP). "The Feeling" features the beautiful words and vocals of Kathy Diamond and is already quoted as having "end of the night classic" written all over it. It is ridiculously funky and addictive. With tribal beats and rubbery bass, spacy, chilled-out guitars and grooving synths, Space Shuffle is meant for home-listening, the tropics, and the dancefloor. Toby's profile is fast growing internationally as a DJ -- he plays a key role in Rekids label nights, and has countless festival bookings for his live act. He has also released work on Odori and Tiny Sticks while remixing everyone from Bent to The Diaphanoids.

This is the first solo full-length record by London's Luke Solomon, who co-runs the Music For Freaks and Classic record labels alongside Justin Harris and Derrick Carter, respectively. When Luke Solomon's name is mentioned, it's quite often in reference to his band The Freaks, his pioneering record labels, or his legendary DJ performances. Very rarely do people think of Luke Solomon the solo producer. Get ready for all that to change, because this is one of the most interesting, complex and diverse pieces of electronic music heard in a long time, featuring contributions from musicians such as Robert Owens, Derrick Carter, Earl Gateshead and Nathan Haines. As Solomon himself explains: "The title came about from a book by William Gibson, which in turn came from one of the first computers built by Babbage. Originally, I wanted to make a DJ mix of original music. The reason for this being that an album of dance music as separate tracks is a really tricky thing to do well. The audience has changed and people's tastes have changed, so by bridging that gap I felt I could essentially keep people's interest while they were doing the cooking at home, while they were getting ready to go out, and of course, keep the DJs happy too. I also wanted it to emulate my taste in electronic music both past and present. Taking inspiration from early deep house records, alongside '80s punk-funk, acid house, of course, and the more current, produced electronic sound. Once I had that in my head, I then wanted to add musicians that I respected and wanted to work with." Luke began his professional DJ career in 1990 with a residency at Middlesex University, which is where he met cohort Justin Harris. He later went on to work with the highly influential Rob Mello and Kenny Hawkes at Freetown Records where he met a certain Derrick Carter. After realizing they shared a similar vision for house music, they co-founded a label and dominated the underground house scene for a decade. The Difference Engine is a deep trip, focusing on the mind just as much as the body.

Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave certainly excelled himself when he created his gnarly acid-drenched minimal-tech shoulder popper that first surfaced in late '06 on the No Sleep EP (Part 2). But now it's time for the remixes. First up is Josh Wink, a man whose reputation goes before him. His interpretation is nothing short of colossal. Cosmo Vitelli delivers a corker on the B-side, along with the gnarly "screamapella" tool!

Mr G makes a triumphant return to Rekids with U Askin'?, an incredible record that has been destroying every dancefloor from South Beach to Shoreditch and Berlin to San Paulo. "U Askin'?" builds and builds from the outset and will soon be so embedded into your brain you'll need surgery. Live sweeps and sirens will have you dancing like World War III is kicking off around you. Marcel Dettmann, Berlin's king of the underground delivers a killer alternative.

"Discemi, aka Jori Hulkkonen and Tuomas Salmela join the Rekids movement. It's likely that you've had the pleasure of listening to the work of Jori Hulkkonen over the last 10 years (including 5 artist LPs for top French label F-Com), or maybe you sang along to his chart-busting duet with Tiga in 2001, 'Sunglasses At Night' -- Jori's partner in crime is Tuomas Salmela, who usually works under the name Phonogenic. His output for 20:20 Vision, Guidance, Moodmusic, Dance Electric and Kickboxer put him in the premier league of production. As Discemi they take their groove to the next level, already witnessed on their debut last year on Get Physical Music. The package comes with a signature remix from Rekids head honcho Matt 'Radio Slave' Edwards. Deep, extended and incredibly effective."

Repress of the first release on this label, from April, 2006. "Radio Slave launches his new label Rekids with something rather huge. Despite a plethora of remixes (both official and unofficial) over the past few years, 'My Bleep' is (unbelievably) the debut single release from Matt Edwards' Radio Slave moniker. 'My Bleep' is a slice of heavyweight dancefloor electronics frying synapses and overheating dancefloors everywhere. Just to fan the flames, the remix is from the mighty Roman Flügel of Alter Ego fame."

"Audiofly aka Luca Saporito and Anthony Middleton are the current darlings of London and Ibiza, not only holding down residencies at some of the best clubs in London and Ibiza (The End / Space) but on the production side they've had the opportunity to work with some of the hottest labels and artists around. Paul Harris needs little introduction, a Grammy award winner with Dirty Vegas and DJ to the stars. When the three of them spent two days holed up in Hoxton 'Miscalate' was the result -- a dark deep house record with rumbling bassline and sharp electronics. Partial Arts a project from Ewan Pearson and Al Usher take control on the B side and not just remix but remake the track."

2006 release. "Spencer Parker has created a very original structure that utilizes mind twisting noises to work 'Beautiful Noise' up and down in a most impressive way. Crashing beats, volume control and swirling soundscapes combine throughout the steady increase to euphoria to take the dancefloor into a very hypnotic and 'beautiful' place. Remixer Raphael Ripperton -- is the winner of the Diesel Music Award, as well as half of Lazy Fat People. Ripperton has releases on Border Community, Crosstown Rebels, Connaisseurs and Num Rec already, and soon to also be on Wagon Repair, Perc Trax and Planet E -- a CV for any producer to envy."

"Rekids present Ghouls by the multi-talented Music For Freaks' Luke Solomon. A massive stomper of a record with heavy drums aplenty -- this is the peak time jackin' house that Luke does to perfection. Claude VonStroke, one of the breakthrough producers of the year, is on hand for the remix as he delivers an absolute bomb. Another master of the jack, guaranteeing floor-filling status."

"It should be no surprise to anyone that E.C.G'ed is a brilliant piece of stripped down, rolling Detroit-influenced deep techno. Acid undertones supply the backbone to this brooding groove, followed closely by layers of sharp percussion and instantly recognizable live analog effects. Coupled with the huge disco horn section make this subtle but dark beast into somewhat of an epic! It would only be right for Matt to get in on the action and his remix under his Rekid alias is an exceptional alternative to what is already a class A-side producing a hypnotic floor-filler."
