Jin Choi's A Thousand Whales Of Love is a true artist album -- all told, 11 songs of emotion using the dance music idiom, but meaning much more. Choi's previous work with Archipel, Lessizmore, Contexterrior and his own Private Gold imprint have brought this subtle yet forceful sound into view, but with this album, there has been extra care afforded to create a vivid, multicolored and multifaceted sonic picture for the public to enjoy in places other than just the dancefloor. The album encompasses such disparate genre influences as ambient soundscapes, '60s soul, '80s neon disco soundtracks, smoky and moody blue-note jazz, and his tough yet subtle minimalist (but not minimal) house excursions. A Thousand Whales Of Love is an album that says so much without saying it through a bullhorn. Full of shrouded emotion teased out of detail, in unlikely forms and places. A treatise on a subject that must be close to the artist's heart but is left up to interpretation by the listener. Nothing is forced, but a lot is gained. At times melancholic and at times hopeful, at times subdued and at times ecstatic, A Thousand Whales Of Love is a proper album by a proper artist.

Jin Choi is a musician, producer, DJ and live artist based in Berlin, Germany. Once coined modern minimal, Choi's productions are equal parts emotion, melody and rhythm. This is his first release on Serialism Records. "Full Range"is a dubby tech-house number, "Half Baked" fuses industrial sounds with melody, making for a blissed-out, deep house track. Maceo Plex's "Deep Remix" is around 9 minutes of Chicago house-inspired sounds layered with snappy high hats and emotive chords.

Jin Choi is a truly remarkable artist hitting the experimental tweek house scene. "Use Your Mouth" features guest vocals from Pablo Beaner over a catchy, grab-assing groove while on the flip is the deep, after hour sleaziness of "Black Dot." Baby-making techno from Berlin -- what more can you ask for?

Since entering the scene in 2006, Jin Choi has released a string of EPs on a number of respected labels, such as Lessizmore, Systematic Recordings, Contexterrior and Archipel. His aural aesthetic emphasizes emotional expression over formulaic dancefloor functionality. After his move from Cologne to Berlin, Jin formed his own imprint, Private Gold, as a new homebase for his productions as well and more.

"Grey-coloured 10"! Lessizmore kick off 2010 with Jin Choi's follow up to the Carnivores EP. His music is supposed to touch emotionally and to move the head and the body as well. This double A is the favorite of Ahmet Sisman, Agoria and Anthony Collins."

Red-colored vinyl. "New sub-division Lessizmore Limited is the occasion for us to produce new artists and to release their work in a beautiful colored 10", 500 copy limited pressing for audiophiles. The first release is focused on two new hopes of 2009: Jin Choi and Dop. Jin Choi has released many impressive EPs on Ware, Archipel and Roman Photo. His tracks are subtle, full of details; he looks for instruments and singings you would never expect in a usual dance tune. 'Carnivores' is a long and melancholic trip which cannot let you unmoved. French trio Dop does a complete rework of the track, adding their own voices, some punchy percussions and a pinch of sex appeal. They keep the original vocals and instruments but use it in such a different way that makes it look funnier."

Jin Choi's "Polaris" and "Serenity" shows a playful, deeper side, with beautifully subtle melodies and surprising harmonic changes, Latin percussions and echo cascades that pull you down to the ground. This is music for the sofas, the dancefloor and the beach. Smiling faces guaranteed! Jin Choi and his buddy Daso are members of Maderfotor, and Choi has produced tracks with Mathias Schaffhäuser under the name of Turismo.

"Techno bomb cooked by Jin Choi, probably one of the most talented newcomers from Cologne, and an amazing nine-minute remix from nobody else than Baby Ford! Oriental and very hypnotic, recommended for the heroic DJ set..."

Jin Choi was one half of the duo Turismo, alongside Mathias Schaffhäuser. After his monster project Maderfotor, in collaboration with Daso, this is a taster of his solo debut. If Maderfotor were to be a metal band, then Jin's solo project would be the post rock spin-off -- abstract, clearly structured and yet abysmal.
