LP version. Als die Welt noch unterging ("When the world was still ending") is a chronicle of the emergence and development of punk and new wave in German-speaking countries from 1979 - 1984. The apocalyptic sentiment around 1980 gave punk and new wave the necessary push. It led to an incredible outburst of activity and creativity. Against the backdrop of the nuclear armament, nobody believed that this world would have a great future anymore -- so suddenly everything was allowed, regardless of the consequences. This is the subject of a book by German author Frank Apunkt Schneider, in which he unfolds the history of the New German Wave and the German punk underground right through to the regional, cassette and fanzine scenes. To mark the 20th-anniversary of this book, a compilation curated by the author brings this period back to life. Featuring Autofick, Carambolage, Siluetes 61, Hans-A-Plast, Kosmonautentraum, Holger Hiller, Die Zwei, Family 5 Tagein, Rassemenschen helfen armen Menschen, Lustige Mutanten, Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle, Neues Deutschland, Die Egozentrischen 2, Male, Bärchen und die Milchbubis, Die Zimmermänner, The Wirtschaftswunder, Palais Schaumburg, Cretins, and Konstantin.

RELEASE DATE: 12/6/2024
Chapter three of the successful compilation series. 14 modern kraut-electronic tracks (three of them exclusive and previously unreleased) inspired by Kraftwerk, Can, Neu!, Cluster, Klaus Schulze and many more. Curated and compiled by Compost artist Fred und Luna. As on Vol. 1 and 2, the collage on the cover was designed exclusively by the fantastic artist Norika Nienstedt from the Kraut metropolis of Düsseldorf. Rainer Buchmüller aka Fred und Luna sadly passed away in January 2024 after a long illness. He was a kind-hearted person, gifted artist, friend and companion. Compost mourns him deeply. A few days before his death, Rainer Buchmüller had along the track listing for Volume 3 (and already ideas for Volume 4), with the request to publish this posthumously, he would be very happy if his fans and all those who will be would receive a "sign of life' from him. It's not at all easy or basically impossible to describe the term "Kraut" stylistically. Nevertheless, Compost Records and Fred und Luna embark on a journey through time to discover the different elements of German electronic music from the 1970s and 1980s and their impact on the more recent German and global music scene. After the great success of Volumes 1 and 2, Volume 3 follows on stylistically from its predecessor and -- as this is one of the basic ideas of the series -- gradually expands the musical spectrum with new krauty elements. Black 2LP with black inner sleeves. Includes three exclusive and unreleased tracks. Featuring Fred und Luna, Philipp Johann Thimm, Niklas Wandt, Christian Nainggolan, Von Spar, Harmonious Thelonious, Benoit B, Salvage Art, Die Orangen, Puma & The Dolphin, Twoonky, Sula Bassana, and Organza Ray.

"In recent years, the introductory texts for the Pop Ambient compilation series, which is released every year on Kompakt as the last release before the Christmas break, often began with the sentence 'Every year again.' 'Every year again,' a quiet, almost unnoticed maxim of self-evidentness. Because this is already the 25th issue to be published this year. 25 years in increasingly fast-moving times in the even faster-moving music business is an eternity that doesn't just feel like it. It is all the more remarkable how I, as someone who is always restless and often driven by this fast pace himself, pleasantly almost haven't realized how -- in pop-ambient contexts -- time does not pass (or passes differently) in the best sense. When compiling the 25th edition I was asked, among other things, what it was like that I was still doing this and whether I had a favorite track. In the spirit of bringing all the tracks together I don't have a favorite track, or all of them. But I have a favorite part (moment) that I played. In this case it was a broad chord in a change of key at minute 2:55 in the piece 'Circles' by Max Würden. A moment of majesty and familiarity that, at that moment, contains the entire Pop Ambient cosmos, that just works and doesn't explain anything -- and I said: 'that's the reason why I'm still doing this.' Pop Ambient is a statement without demands. Is promise without expectation. Is a path without a destination. Every year again." --Wolfgang Voigt, October 2024
As always, the indispensable final mastering by Jörg Burger ensures that everything is brought together and the sound is fine-tuned. And like every year, the 25th edition is of course wrapped in an abstract, floral magic creation by Veronika Unland. Over the years, the grace of her imagery has increasingly merged with the musical aura to form an unmistakable magical symbiosis. Featuring Leandro Fresco/Thore Pfeiffer, Pass Into Silence, Tamarma & Sebastian Mullaert, Sono Kollektiv, Nathalie Brum, Andrew Thomas, Julia Parr, Segensklang, Ümit Han, Max Würden, Blank Gloss, Hendrik Meyer, and Triola Zum.

Perpignan Burning: the Southern French capital of garage rock in search of the riff. Or as Lou Reed would put it: "You can't beat two guitars, bass, and drums." Content: 27 previously unreleased tracks on double LP. All tracks on this compilation were recorded in or around Perpignan, France, and go to the musical extremes of an extreme city. Whether garage punks or freakbeat mods, country punks or city rockers, whether pioneers or new to the scene: the only thing that counts is the riff. Pascal Comelade, infamous riff explorer since the 1970s, is the unlikely godfather of this bunch of punks and rockers. He opens the trip with his emblematic cover design and closes it with his own Riffifi orchestra to the ultimate riff of The Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog." Featuring Le GORI, Johnny Tramuntana, Ghost Twist, The Hands, Henry, Yegg, Radiola, Jeune Senior Weekend, Monsieur Paul Et Les Solutions, No Cunt Act, Santa Maria Death Trip, The Madcap Dreams, The In-Fuzzed, Sea Urchin, L'Avant Garde, Dino Karper & The Shale, Lonely Nana, Lost Station, Minerves, Hugo Riché, Fuckboy, The Nothing, Lords of Wags, L'Impasse Humaniste, Les Crotales, and Mammoüth.

Brainchild of British-Egyptian historian Hannah Elsisi (NYU AD, Cambridge), Chromesthesia -- aptly named "the color of sound" -- tracks Afro-diasporic rhythms from the Whole Mangrove World. Featuring a veritable avengers team of everyone's favorite producer: Sho Madjozi, Asher Gamedze, Nick León, Deena Abdelwahed, Kelman Duran, GAIKA, Lord Tusk, Covco, Julmud, LYZZA, Maurice Louca, Baby Cocada, 3Phaz, LAFAWNDAH, Double Zuksh, Lamin Fofana, and DJ Babatr. In its first of more-to-come iterations, Chromesthesia launches its inaugural compilation mapping centuries of movement, resistance, and creolite as they have been inscribed in sound. From Rio to Cairo, Miami to Kampala -- Chromesthesia probes the audiopolitics of diaspora, tracking soundscapes of errantry and migration along 20 sites of what Elsisi calls The Whole Mangrove World. This compilation comes on transparent orange vinyl, adorned in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner featuring the original artwork Woven Chronicle.

RELEASE DATE: 11/22/2024
Rhythm Section International, the impossible-to-define label founded in South East London by Bradley Zero in 2014 has reached the ripe old age of ten years. Funny thing is, it feels like it could have been almost double that. It's hard to imagine the Landscape of the London music scene without this foundational force whose influence is felt more than ever. With this special anniversary release, the label takes stock at this milestone to present a compilation in three parts: Past, Re-Imagined, and Future, to honor the label's tradition of always paying homage to what has come before while setting sights firmly forwards. With 100-odd releases in their extended back catalogue covering every imaginable style and boasting influence in every inhabited continent on earth, it's been quite a decade for the independent label, which began on a shoestring budget with funds made via the now legendary Rhythm Section pool hall parties in Peckham. From humble beginnings to an era defining output - few would have predicted the slow and steady rise of the imprint and the impact it has had on generations of DJ's, musicians and listeners -- at home and abroad. Spanning six discs and 30 tracks, the compilation begins by presenting one track from each year of the labels output -- highlighting some forgotten classics from the archives over the first two discs. For discs three and four, the label invited its stable of artists to pick a track from the back catalogue to re-imagine in their own style. This process resulted in some incredibly playful contributions from the likes of Ruf Dug, Session Victim, and Private Joy -- whose playful reinterpretations add new depth to old material. Finally, the last two discs are entirely new material for 2024, carrying the torch of the previous SHOUTS compilations -- whose sole aim is to shine light on new music from emerging artists. Featuring Prequel, Silentjay X Jace XL, Dan Kye, Mallard, Duke Hugh, Vels Trio, Astroturismo, Nicola Cruz, Special Feelings, Retiree, Local Artist, Jerome Thomas, MMYYKK, The Colours That Rise, CATO, Hiatt Db, Klein Zage, Wallace, Retromigration & Monty DJ, Bamao Yendé & Low Jack, RONI, Gayance, Magi Merlin & funkywhat, Pinty & Tomos, DJ Pitch & MLE, douniah & Dhanya, Nitai Hershkovits & Rejoicer, Frank Liin, and Cousin Kula.

Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad musical genre that emerged in 1977 in the wake of punk rock. Post-punk musicians moved away from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, adopting instead a broader, more experimental approach that included a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Here now is another enthralling volume in the Postcard series. The Postcards saga continues, discovering lesser known -- but no less significant -- names from the post-punk, new wave and D.I.Y. scenes around the UK and the US. Groups whose recording career was minimal and stopped, in 90% of cases, at the first and only 45 rpm (which is the cream of the crop here). Vol. 4 brings together five seven-inches, here presented in their entirety, released between 1979 and 1981 by cultish British bands. Original covers, labels and credits are fully reproduced on the back of the cover. Featuring Leopards, Monoconics, Eternal Scream, Look Back In Anger, and Academy One.

Mount Athos, known as the Holy Mountain, is a monastic peninsula in northeastern Greece, central to Eastern Orthodox monasticism for over a millennium. Its twenty monasteries house around 2,000 monks dedicated to prayer and worship, which songs have echoed across the Aegean Sea for centuries, heard only by visiting pilgrims, isolated from conventional time and global events. After several years of research, and several visits to the retired community, Flee are happy to present their new project Athos: Echoes from the Holy Mountain, dedicated to this liturgic music and repertoire that seems to be evolving outside the usual boundaries of time and space. Rooted in Byzantine chant, this a cappella tradition essential to monastic life featuring intricate yet serene melodies designed to facilitate prayer and contemplation, using a system of modes and scales to create a meditative atmosphere. Trans-disciplinary, this effort of documentation also comprehends an artistic re-interpretation aspect inviting contemporary Greek and foreign artists to reflect on the subject. A musical compilation which captures original field recordings from the 1960s and from today capturing the essence of liturgical music on Mount Athos, but also new compositions inspired by them by artists such as Holy Tongue (UK), Jay Glass Dubs (GR), Prins Emanuel & Inre Kresten Grupp (SWE), Jimi Tenor (FI), Gilb'r (FR), Daniel Paleodimos (GR), Esma & Murat Ertel (TUR) and Organza Ray (GR/US).

These two vinyl records showcase the legacy left by the boogaloo movement in Peru between 1966 and 1975. They comprise twenty-two songs by seventeen artists who recorded on the remarkable local label MAG more than five decades ago and now invite today's new generations to dance body and soul to these re-releases. You will find outstanding tracks by the likes of Tito Chicoma, Melcochita, Los Kintos, Otto Rojas, and Coco Lagos among many others. MAG was one of the most important and prolific labels in Peru and, though it also was involved in releasing a lot of other types of music, its specialty was the tropical variety, which coincidentally, DJs and collectors seem to crave most. Peru developed a major boogaloo scene in the mid-60s, far from the genre's place of origin, New York, where iconic songs like "Bang Bang" and "El Pito" fused soul and funk with Latin sounds, conquering dance halls and winning extensive radio airplay. The music trend soon spread to Caribbean countries and from there made the geographical leap to the city of Lima. Although Joe Bataan claimed that boogaloo was killed off at the end of the sixties by the labels and their veteran musicians (who conspired against the new generation of singers), Pete Rodriguez, Richie Ray, and the Lebrón Brothers continued to release boogaloo records in Peru, but salsa music soon took over. These two vinyl records showcase the legacy left by this movement in Peru between 1966 and 1975. They comprise twenty-two songs by seventeen artists who recorded more than five decades ago and now invite today's new generations to dance body and soul to these re-releases. Featuring Santiago Silva, Ñico Estrada, Beto Villena, Nilo Espinosa Y Su Orquesta, Pancho Acosta Y Sus Guaracheros, Karamanduka, Mag Peruvian All Stars, Joe Di Roma, Sonora Casino, Luciano Luciani Y Sus Mulatos, Mario Allison Y Su Combo, Coco Lagos Y Sus Orates, Laghonia/New Juggler Sound, , Sangre Joven, and Conjunto Los Rayos Del Ande.

"The definitive survey of America's independent '70s soul scene, and a companion piece to Now-Again's long-running Soul Cal series."
"Soul Cal captures the retro-utopian vision of a past where every smalltown record store or garage in the US might have hidden a virtuosic funk outfit; the thrill of knowing that jobbing musicians might be getting paid for the first time; plus the bittersweet knowledge that those that passed on are getting deserved recognition. And all that before you get the thrill of the music itself." --Wire Magazine.
"Compilation produced, annotated and researched by Eothen 'Egon' Alapatt. Art direction by Errol Richardson. Mastered by Dave Cooley, Kelly Hibbert, and Jason Bitner. Additional coordination by Tanner McCrary."

Gatefold sleeve, superior pressing. Includes full-size, sixteen-page booklet, in color throughout, with detailed, bi-lingual notes and stunning photographs. "Since the 16th century, the Ecuadorian province of Esmeraldas has been home to a unique Afro-Indigenous culture originating in the integration of the Indigenous Chachi and Nigua peoples with African Maroon communities. Juyungo documents significant Esmeraldan artists and bands playing the Afro-Ecuadorian folklore of the province, as well as including some older field recordings. Based mostly on the marimba, whose origins lie partly in the African balafon, partly in Indigenous percussion instruments, the music is laced with call and response chants, ambient insect and bird noise, the filigree finger-styles of the Andean guitar tradition and the panpipes of the mountains. This is resonant insider roots music at its headiest -- the mystic revelation of Esmeraldas, gully deep and lustral." --Francis Gooding, The Wire

Housed together in a stunning slipcase with a matte laminate soft touch finish and a UV spot varnish on the beloved logo, Be With proudly present the Be With 10 Years record and book package. Book block printed on 120gsm Dadong Lucky Bird woodfree uncoated paper. 140gram vinyl with a 380gsm jacket. 1000 copies only for the world, no repress! Be With Records reaching ten years feels like a landmark worth celebrating. The label presents Joyride (the record) and Labour Of Love (the book) in one beautiful slipcase. This book and record package was conceived as an opportunity to praise, shine a light on and above all else show gratitude to all the artists Be With has worked so closely with over the last ten years. But not just the artists -- all of the amazing people who form part of the wider Be With family. Without question, this package represents the most exciting, daunting and rewarding thing that the label has ever put together. The record: Joyride. Ten tracks for ten years of Be With from ten artists. As a happily "all over the place" label, the music, accordingly, had to be varied in vibe and style. Featuring Thomas Almqvist, Lewis Taylor, Mic Murphy, 52nd Street, Coastlines, Maston, Kenny Dickenson, The Autumn Defense, Stimulator Jones, and Andre Cymone. The book: Labour Of Love. Created in conjunction with the editor and design team behind Disco Pogo, Labour Of Love is Be With's first ever book and serves as a brilliantly rich and varied document of Be With's first 10 years. It surveys the entire catalogue with the artwork for every single release faithfully reproduced in full color accompanied by Rob's inimitable reviews. The book contains fresh, exclusive interviews with Ned Doheny, Leon Ware, Lewis Taylor, Tommy Guerrero, Wally Badarou, Steve Moore, Pete Fowler, Kimiko Kasai, Tony Henry (52nd Street), The Autumn Defense, Coastlines, and The Mighty Soulmates. There's also fantastic contributions from a whole host of well-regarded fans of the label, including Gilles Peterson, Trevor Jackson, Efficient Space on Steve Hiett, Bill Brewster, Balearic Mike, and Lou Hayter. It explores the development of the Be With logo and also take an insider's look at the journey of a typical Be With record.

"Recorded in Memphis between 1960 and 1962 by Home of the Blues Record Company -- sixteen tracks of vintage rocking Memphis blues that went unissued at the label's demise and were lost in a warehouse, ultimately rediscovered and released by Acoustic Archives. All now remastered to perfection by Oz Fritz and a team of A&R experts working with the original masters, including ones made by Sam Phillips Recording Studios in Memphis. Featuring the superb arrangements of trumpeter Willie Mitchell, accompanying some of the best singers of the day, with guitar by Sammy Lawhorn, bass by Lewi Steinberg, and drums by AI Jackson Jr. Recorded in glorious mono by Scotty Moore at Sam Phillips Recording Service. Each artist bio had been thoroughly researched under the guidance of Acoustic Archives producer Marc Ryan with the assistance of Dr. Dave Evans, head musicologist at Memphis State U. The story provided in the 12-page booklet includes how these cuts eventually surfaced from the early 1960s and features the photos and commentary on the recording artists, with how the original owners of the Home of The Blues Record Shop, once at 107 Beale Street, worked at the recordings."
