For the next release on EPM Music, Bryan Zentz reprises his Stare5 moniker on the new four-tracker, Void Swimmer EP. Bryan states: "It seemed fitting to bring this moniker back home to a very Detroit-influenced sound once again. That era of music is something that has always influenced me and I have always returned to as a fan." This becomes immediately apparent on the Void Swimmer EP opener, "The Adverse Within" that displays some deep Detroit bones, before the tough workout, "We Will Not". "Void Swimmer" lays down some dark and intense rumblings before the grooving "Velonaut" closes EP.

Mark Broom's Z Beats follows One Sound/Myth EP (EPM 016EP) and King EP (EPM 017EP) as the third in a trilogy of EPs for EPM Music and also includes a remix by Truncate. The new EP opens with two superlative versions of the title track, "Z Beats". "Mix 1" is a stripped and deep minimal-techno drill while "Mix 2" utilizes a warm bass and variegated melody. Up next is a phat and phunky "Z Beats" remix by Truncate. Bringing up the rear is another treat from Broom. "OT" is a glistening peak time stomper.

Following One Sound/Myth EP (EPM 016EP, 2017), King EP is the second in a trilogy of EPs for EPM Music by Mark Broom. "King" is intensely addictive, with its tough, tracky groove, stomping bassline, and woven disco sample. "77" and "LX" continue the theme but with a deeper quality. The former is a dizzying number that could have come out of the windy city, but with a few touches of UK flavor, while the latter is a looped stomper, with a piano refrain and compact beats. Gary Beck offers a stripped-back remix of "King" that cuts away from the disco.

The first of three EPs, the One Sound/Myth EP sees Mark Broom in pure techno mode. "One Sound" is highly effective in its simplicity; nothing is superfluous on this grooving, bass-laden beast, while "Myth" is a revolving stomper that's primed for the dancefloor with layered beats and shining cymbals. Chicago's DJ Hyperactive provides a remix of "One Sound" which is deep down and dirty, adding that raw Chicago touch. With African blood running through his veins, Antwerp based DJ/producer Absent has a passion for rhythm and melody, which is evident on his stellar tech-funk remix of "Myth".

EPM Music invite Esteban Adame back with Descendants EP, featuring remixes from Juan Atkins and Tresillo. Esteban's original version of "Descendants" is a beauty that draws on his LA meets Detroit background. Its deep bassline and vibrant synth work deliver meaningful and emotional techno. Tresillo show another string to their bow this tracky Chicago-style remix. Juan Atkins brings the heat with his unique remix. Pushing the 808 bass to its limits, adding an infectious break, and using elements of the original in a staccato arrangement to twist and layer.

House of Black Lanterns is the latest artistic guise of Dylan Richards, formerly known as King Cannibal on Ninja Tune and Zilla on Warp. Dan Curtin's musical quest began in the early 1990s, when, from his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, he began producing innovative sounds of every variety. His impressive discography dates back to 1992, when his first releases on Detroit's 33RPM Records and Belgium's Buzz motivated him to launch his own Metamorphic Recordings. He opens the Galaxies Merging EP with the sci-fi techno of the title-track, all trampling beats and dappled synth work. "Mind Sweep" delivers high-tech funk with a deep, soulful undercurrent, before the unpredictable late-night workout "To Modify" closes the EP with a bold wash of erratic electronics.

EPM Music follows Shaker/Ritual by Robert Hood/Floorplan (EPM 010EP, 2015), with an EP featuring two other legendary figures of electronic music. Sonic Mind's D-Knox delivers two tracks with Metamorphic's Dan Curtin on remix duties. "Out There," with its rotational, stippled groove, and "Speak So They Listen," with its funked-up stomp, are pure electronic delights, bearing all the hallmarks of D-Knox's musical journey and sonic expertise. Dan Curtin's remix of "Out There" is a perfect complement to Knox's original; Curtin's signature style shines through with a tough drum line and sweeping touches.

A double-header from the M-Plant master himself, uniting Robert Hood's two dancefloor personalities (his given name and Floorplan). Following his 2014 celebratory comprehensive compilation M-Print: 20 Years of M-Plant Music (MPM 025CD), "Shaker" immerses you in those late-night moments when Hood graces the decks. It's pulsating and hypnotic; stripped back to the essentials. The beats, the groove, the perfectly placed vocal snippet -- nothing is superfluous here. Hood's Floorplan touch is all over "Ritual." A shuffling Chi-town flavor, trademark hi-hats, and a beast of a bassline underlie the track, with elegant synths that build to dizzying heights.
