"Bebop heads take a note. Call 0800-7-9-4-6-4-S-W-I-N-G and get a listen to the upcoming Daniel Mehlhart single on Neuton Music. The original track is an exquisite jazz-to-house (call it 'jazzdance' if you're up to it) workout, hip to the bomb, throwing in some Theo Parrish piano action, a zonked trumpet breakdown and body-shaking bass. Dig Jazzanova's 'What's Your Number' remix of Ian Pooley back in 1998 and you know what we're talking about. Daniel Mehlhart's recently remixed DJ T and Mathias Tanzmann and also is going to have another Kindisch release out before the winter. A Basic Channel-like deep and dubby remix on the flip comes by Brendon Moeller from NYC, who's critically-acclaimed One Man's Junk and Jazz Space EPs were heavily played by Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug, Andrew Weatherall, Luciano, Derrick May and many more tastemakers. His spacious sounds and panned echoes reverberate over a sparse framework of steady kick drums and pulsating, minimal bass tones. Second remix is by Beat Pharmacy (which is Brendon's second producer alias under which he is releasing mainly on Francois K's Deep Space label). The Beat Pharmacy takes up the original swinging elements and adds a late night house vibe with a dubbed-out deep space groove, dreamy reverbs and reggae bits. Dial M For... connects the dots between the past, present and future via the thread of jazz running through every track. Lush, innovative and essential."

"Nick's involvement with techno began in the early '90s as a young member of the Toronto rave scene. It wasn't until 2002 that Nick began to concentrate primarily on electronic production. After much success with co-productions of Detroit flavors and landing on Carl Craig's Fabric compilation, Nick shifted his focus and began anew, working under the Tun moniker with long time friend Lawrence Horton. Watson is Nick's first solo project. Growing out of a collection of personal work, music under the Watson moniker is a more melodically-induced, memory-driven sound whose strength lies in subtlety and emotional honesty, in stark contrast the usually heavy hand of techno. This journey-like narrative is a key part in every arrangement, finding time to express small emotions within the larger energy of each composition. This nearly 12 minute lasting anthem -- wait for the breakdown! -- is an astoundingly deep, slow-building killer which is going to appeal not only the fans of Planet E or early Mathew Jonson releases. This is Detroit updated with flair and innovation. Tolga Fidan from the Vakant squad adds his moody, jazzy slant to the track, less anthemic than Watson and a nice alternative."

"Not only is Franklin sharing his flat with Yapacc these days, he's also remixing the likes of Peter Grummich, Colorswitch, Ricardo Villalobos and Pheek. The Berlin resident is also releasing constantly persuasively arranged and produced music on Crack & Speed, Sender, Trapez, Immigrant and on his own imprint The Green Empire (which is he co-runing also with his long-time friend Yapacc). 'This is probably the best Cadenza release which hasn't been released on Cadenza,' said someone here in the office -- and who are we to deny this? These two tracks are beautifully towering tripped-out, post-minimal techno pieces which are not only suitable for late night moments."

"Underthecarpethouse is back! The buzzing producer tag team and Supdub label owner from Berlin is dropping three quirky 'pick-me' tracks on their very first Neutonmusic 12" release. Weird vocal samples, syncopated beats, heavy rolling basses and irresistibly grooving drums is making 'And Drive' a funky fresh debut -- here to rock your block party!"

"These cheerful 22 minutes combine emotive techno/house with synthesizer washes and constant, rolling rhythmic underlay ('Mange Tak'), straight and right down to the last detail (with sparkling piano-chords) but nevertheless oblique produced, 'Kontrastprogramm' reminds us of early works by Charles Webster, Brendon Moeller and, aem, Hot Chip; and Trauerspiel on B2 features a 'once upon a time'-like theme (violin played by Daniel's daddy!) accentuated by a pulsating, hypnotic, rhythmic and gradually building melody and compelling breakdown."

"Dole & Kom return for a single release number 4 on Neutonmusic. The 12" opens with 'Class of '94,' which has all the necessary ingredients of a great dance track. It bounces along at a nice pace, it is well-produced and it has enough variation to keep the listener occupied over its full length. 'Analogue Activity' is a classic house cut, which will delight fans of 20/20 Visions, Sebo K, Tigerskin, Gene Hunt, Music For Freaks or Jamie Anderson. A wicked tune! Loaded with an optimistic Chicago feel, ten tons of heavy bass lines and haunting melodies, we are pretty sure P. Diddy will dig this one at his next Ibiza visit as well."

"Following on from Zweikarakter's dazzling Synthic release on Neutonmusic, Daniel Dela Curtis and Tomson return with two nouveau and playful tracks, 'Kuma Suma' & 'Touched By This.' Slightly dark and trippy elements, densely sequenced MIDI passages, gradually building melodies and a pulsating rhythm makes this a very special release, attracting fans of Luciano, Carl Craig, Dewalta and Akzidenz Grotesk. The two Playtracks label owners are delivering -- again -- a subtle, atmospheric and mesmerizing version of vintage house/techno in 2007."

"With Estroe from Amsterdam, Neutonmusic is releasing two emotional and exuberant house/techno tracks with handclaps, catchy bass lines and dynamic hi-hats. The remix on the flipside comes from Jamie Anderson, who is currently enjoying the success of NRK''s re-release of his 2004 underground hit 'Time Is Now' featuring a remix from man-of-the-moment, Radio Slave. Jamie has recently collaborated with Jesse Rose for the release of 'Body Jackin' on DJ Hell's Gigolo label. His remix of 'Lovely Sadness' is a 12-minute house workout with a hypnotic, pulsating rhythm and haunting melodies."

"DJINXX music has been released by labels like Fcom, Cocoon, 100% Pure and on his own label, Sähkätek, and remixed both Deetron and Michel De Hey's recent singles, as well as King Britt, David Duriez and others. 'Formula' is an analog sounding gem with a melancholic certain Detroit feel, combining euphoric, funkiness from back in the days with a more dynamic up-to-date electro/techno approach. Young cat Mark August from Amsterdam-is-the-new-Berlin has put out a string of killer releases on Mezzotinto Records. Recently his track 'Warm' got a second life on the Innervisions label of Ame and Dixon."

"With Boutique Minimal, Yapacc, who releases on Treibstoff, Multicolor and on Perlon under the Narcotic Syntax moniker (with James Dean Brown), is having his follow up on Neutonmusic. The A-side is a twisted but soulful minimal piece which features Swiss poem artist Bettie Synclair on the vocals. This is a slow building 9-minute take on current minimal techno with warped funk. On the B-side, 3 Channels (Crosstown Rebels, Trapez) from Poland re-interpreted the track into a more ravish version, with quantized drums and beats, bleeps, vocal snippets and sharp hand-claps. We think this is one of the best pieces of work they've produced in the past few months."

"Born near Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the late '70s, Vincent Belgrano was somewhat destined to become a music maker. The 25 year old is studying classical piano at the Buenos Aires university and has a huge folk record collection his own. As his passion with folk and South American music grew, he recognized the sound of his generation in early '90s dance music: being too young to have lived through the beginning of pop or hip-hop, he enjoyed LFO, Maurizio, Autechre, Robert Hood or Matthew Herbert as the soundtrack of his teenage years."

"Frenchman Tom Pooks (with assisting production support on side B by Joy Kitikonti) keeps things supercharged. The DJ and producer is based in charming Mont Blanc, South France. When he's not busy producing tracks for Scandium, Ovum, Intec or Terminal M., he's sitting in front of his desk finalizing business plans for his own soon-to-be-launched label, Moovement Records. 'Mon Electricien a Disjoncté' is a bottom-heavy house track with minimalist, hypnotic funk and a door-scratching break Wes Craven would be proud of."

"It's rather the academic view of so called Clicks&Cuts (or simply Klickhouse) music; the intention to create and compile a contribution to the electronic music fans, was and still is, to work, to share and to exchange with each other; the DJ, the artists and the labels you love; mainly small labels based in Montreal, Paris, Cologne, Napoli, which share a certain, similar view of Klickhouse. It's amazing seeing all these great labels like Revolver, Logistic, Forcetracks, Dumb Unit, Sub Static doing what they do: pushing things in a creative way forward -- what probably the major companies have lost on their marketing overswept business: creating and producing new music. Future music. Or how Mr. Afrika Bambaata back in the days used to say: searching for the right kind of funk. Microfunk showcases the finest in, including 4 brandnew tracks, carefully selected for the next music-lover of this very specific genre." 1997 release, the first in Neuton (large German dance distributor)'s series of underground house mix CDs. House music is generally painful to define, roughly associated with the lineage of post-disco music that continued on into the electronic era once that genre was thoroughly vilified into non-existence. Very repetitive by nature, house music that is heavily filtered/phased and sublimely mixed can entertain many psychedelic-trance effects, which these Neuton mix CDs illustrate as well as anything I've heard in a similar vein. The bridge that some listeners may have to jump off to access these effects might be excessively steep, but the rewards are there for the properly attuned. This first volume is mixed by Heiko M/S/O, resident DJ at the Wild Pitch Club. Features tracks from Blaze, Chris Cray, Epic Desire feat. Savere, Mark Grant, The Jammy Dodgers, Oscuro P, New Century Souls, Peace Division, Lo Soul, Robotic Movements, Urban Farmers, Studio 54, Jeremiah, Wulf n Bear & Chris Brann.
