Longtime underground star Francesca Lombardo steps up to Ovum with a trio of superb new signature sounds. Italian Lombardo has been crisscrossing the globe and headlining all its most tasteful clubs and festivals for many years. Her powerful, heartfelt grooves have come on the most influential labels of the day and her critically acclaimed debut album Life of Leaf showed that she can do all sounds and styles from downtempo to pop with equal skills. Her mix of innovation and compelling grooves continues on this latest EP. The vocals on the opener "Magic Moment" are a poem Francesca's friend Victoria (Viktoriia) sent to her. She kept them for four years before finding the special inspiration that encouraged her to use them in these writing sessions. They lend the tune an intimate feel and draw you in deep to the elegant house drums and warming synths. It's an uplifting and classy tune with a standout Moog bassline that will lock in the floor. After the dub version is "Sea," a much more twisted and peak time techno tune. The synths are spangled over jacked-up drums, with edgy textures and late-night menace all making it a surefire winner This is another tasteful take on techno from Francesca Lombardo.

Josh Wink is as iconic as it gets in electronic music. The Philly artist crafted several of the genre's most enduring hits early in his career and has continued to remain at the forefront of the scene ever since. His Ovum label is part of the reason for that, as are superb new tunes like this one. Truncate is one of the new techno dons, known for his funky signature style of jackin' tracks, along with crafting vast, all-consuming grooves that dominate dance floors. He has done so mostly on his own label and together the pair cook up some real magic on this new release. Be Aware came about during a multi-day studio session at Truncate's LA studio and is the first of two EPs that will be released from that same creative collaboration. Josh has been a fan of Truncate's for years and had him remix his 2016 single "Shoelaces" and 2017 single "Resist", while in return Josh remixed Truncate's 2017 tune "Concentrate". The timeless "Be Aware" is a ghoulish techno track with freaky vocals that keep you looking over your shoulder. A sparse lead synth rises and falls to edgy effect, slick drums roll deep and unique tweaked effects flesh out this most well-crafted of tracks. Truncate offers his own impactful interpretation, where the tempo quickens and builds into an infectious powerful groove that has immense impact. This EP is a perfect example of an artist collaboration, where you can equally hear the signature sound of each producer in one distinctive track. This is the first coming together of these two underground icons and the results are unsurprisingly powerful.

Global techno titan Josh Wink returns to his own Ovum Recordings for big new single "Balls Back", which comes with a remix from Marco Faraone. Philly-born DJ, legendary producer, and the man behind many of techno's most iconic cuts, Josh Wink remains as prominent now as he did a quarter of a century ago. That is because of the constant sense of innovation in all he does, as well as his rare understanding of dance floor dynamics and mastery of his studio. Says Josh of his latest track, "Every time I play this people rush over asking 'what is this track that says 'get your balls back'?' Its reaction after playing has been amazing and reassuring that it hits hard, works on the floor, and sticks in people's heads." He's not wrong: the powerful "Balls Back" is a spatial, acid-tinged techno stormer that builds and builds until it ultimately explodes in signature Josh Wink fashion. The 303s are saturated in deep processing along with heavy 909 percussion and a "slap-you-in-your-face" vocal sample that will lead to dance floor devastation. The dub version is a raw, stripped-down and faster-paced bass jacker that turns up the heat, and a Balls Tool is also included for dexterous DJ deployment. Italian Marco Faraone is a fellow techno heavyweight and one of the scene's most versatile producers. He has brought his always impactful sounds to labels like Drumcode, Rekids, and Etruria Beat. His remix is typically robust: vast, rolling drums power it along while glitchy percussion peels off the groove and the percussion gets ever more wild and heavy. It's a real main room monster. This is no-nonsense techno that perfectly marries form and function into a dynamite package.

Celebrating 22 years of Josh Wink's cult acid classic "Sixth Sense", Ovum invited Shlomi Aber and Louie Vega for a set of remarkable updates. Louie takes the lead with a whole menu of mixes that provide total mix creativity. The lead mix hits with that essential New York swing. Stripped back to its naked form, the drums bump you into submission while a rubber ball bassline and Ursula Rucker's signature spoken word lock you down. Vega's remixes are joined by two twists from long-time mate Shlomi Aber. His is a pumping, up-tempo techno twist that nods to the original.

300 chapters in the on-going tale of Ovum. Chapters written for the dancefloor from the heart over the course of 25 years by some of the greatest names to ever touch the controls, including Josh Wink, the man in the nucleus. He takes the honor of the 300th release with a song that resonates with his deepest core energies. "Aries In Mars" is a wily, bouncing opus that twists and turns with physical acid charm, rolling beats and breakbeat vapor trails. It fizzes with every element of Wink's signature but is delivered with a refreshed perspective and sense of vitality.

Selecta is yet another crystalline acid body workout from the Ovum boss Josh Wink. Galvanized by heavily swung drums, loaded and coded with a venom-like funk and characterized by a big sound system vocal that tears out of nowhere and disappears just as quickly; it's yet another unique piece of 303 witchcraft, the likes of which only Wink can conjure. Deeply groovy, unabashed darkness, and just a nuance of mischief with the vocal, it's yet another precision piece from Mr. Wink who's also kindly provided an instrumental for your added creative pleasure.

Wink returns to Ovum and he's packing some serious substance. "Resist" is the sound of a man who is confounded and frustrated with the current political and media climate. Tension, fear and adrenaline ripple throughout as we dynamically ride the tangible, visceral highs and lows in a quintessential classic Wink way. Remix-wise, Truncate forges through the blurred truths, manipulation and divisiveness with two clear dancefloor tactics: a thundering, roughly-hewn late night techno roll-out and a deeper, leaner approach for slightly earlier hours with a rising siren that acts as a call to arms for like minds to unify.

Introducing Amberoom: a celebration of the freestyle spirit, a brand new name from three old friends - Manuel Tur, Adrian Hoffmann, and Ramin Nouyan. "RHIT" has a mid-tempo funk in the percussion, breathtaking organ blasts, and a casually late piano line. At points heads-down and tribal, at others epic. "Hover" features a staggered woodblock beat that ignites the track that gives no hint at what's about to come. Suddenly a dense fog of synths heave into the mix, harmonically weaving with a yearning cosmic far-away feel . "Machine" is an awe-striking 11-minute episode of brilliantly drawn out deep, dubby funk.

With over 25 years in the game, André Galluzzi can respectfully be awarded the veteran badge of honor. A mark of experience and longevity for an artist who has, as they say, been there and done it all. The metronomic kick drum of the "Submerge" introduces the listener to its immersive groove, whilst bubbling and elasticated FX vie for our attention, adding a sublime swing. On the flip, "Bold", by name and nature, ups the swing ante with its fierce acidic melody, shimmering hats, and rasping snare.

The Dutchman Anton Pieete has spent recent years exploring the reaches of his analog set up, and turns over his latest wares to Ovum, with The Menu. "Peven" is heady and intoxicating - it's percussive, funky drums and undulating keys are carried by a woozy wave of rich analog bass. The dramatic and ghostly strings of "BN 3000" are at odds with its frenetic bouncing bass melody and yet, they work in complete harmony. "Lite Green" is a cosmic jam with a laser synths and a malleable, swinging groove that's governed by a pulsating bassline and dense kick drum.

Oniris's years of DJing have given him an innate understanding of dancefloor dynamics. Having already released some of his finest work on Bedrock and Systematic, it's now Ovum's turn to play host to Oniris's latest work, Night Walk. Eschewing his penchant for the peak time, Oniris steers away from the euphoric nature of previous outings and, whilst retaining his melodic moves, creates a selection of deep, warm and groovy cuts with a spiky electric edge. Head-nodders, shoulder-droppers and hip-swingers rejoice, these slinky dancefloor numbers are for you.

Marco Faraone makes his debut on Ovum Recordings with Raw Jamsessions 001. The EP is the first of a new concept series intended for appreciators of the analog sound. The EP was produced live, with Marco connecting his hardware, preparing the patterns and recording live to tape, unedited. Each track has its own distinct feel; the first is a rolling journey of echoing synths and hefty drums. The second features a cascade of acid-tinged stabs. On the B-side, "003" makes for a laidback yet gritty six minutes, whilst "004" closes off the EP with layers of percussion thudding bassline.

Gel Abril presents three big tracks with Raver. "Raver" from the oak-trunk kicks to the bellowing subs to the demonic down-pitched spoken sermon by way of the life-support machine rhythmic texture, is a wholly dark tech groove. "Optical" is a drama-raiser that fluctuates back and forth, causing every other element from the kicks right the way up to the percussion to follow its tense pattern. "Akasa" taps into the EP's heritage theme with its timeless, almost bouncy acid line. Gel establishes a tangible, physical funk with increasing percussive elements and a synth lick that gets decidedly trippy and unpredictable.

Dudley Strangeways presents Crack The Whip, constructed for one sole purpose, melting minds in the darkest of rooms. "Keep It Clean" is twistedly simple; a rump-busting roll in the drum department and paranormal pad leave space for a precision tuned tone that warps with the gravitas of a life support machine. Sinewy, cold and deliciously disconcerting. Breaking into an early '90s warehouse, "Transition" whisks us on an acid trip with flurries of jack and a lean lead line that slithers through the ever-mutating drums and occasional FX hailstorms. Devilishly futuristic and tailored for those deep, long blends.

Rob Hes presents his debut Main Sounds on Ovum. "Main Sounds" is the type of track that catches you unaware. A stately 4/4 suddenly goes into overdrive as a cathedral-shaking arpeggio penetrates to the forefront. "On The Move" ups the physical sensation factor with its steam-powered drum arrangement, percussive elements perfectly positioned to heighten the drama. Finally, with "Perfect Illusion", dense layers of atmospheres shroud the spectrum and kicks plough through the mists driving a shimmering hook.

One of the most acclaimed DJ's and producers from Spain, Nacho Marco's rich musical history is evident in all of his productions. He returns with his follow-up to one of Ovum's highlights of 2015. Hypnotic and sparse, 'Afterlife' opens this EP with its bubbling acid line and stripped, raw beats that bring you back to the warehouse. 'Let's Play' continues with the acid theme as it ripples away under a drowsy bassline, broken by tight snare and shining hats that build to peak time bliss. Finally, the smooth balearic vibes of 'Tell Me Something,' with its hooky piano riff and smooth synth chords, close out the EP.

MANIK returns to Ovum with Recourse. MANIK teams up with LA word-painter Cari Golden. Momentum maintained throughout; things take an unexpected dubby twist as the 'VHS' shimmers and ripples with synth insistency. Rolling hi-hats, hip-snapping clap attacks and a timeless vocal shot build around each other, occasionally revealing a fully-juiced bassline swinging and rolling with total consistency. "Los Angeles Dub" is straight up jack, no chaser: a grainy, analog moment of total unabashed machine-melting funk.

Luke Slater presents two remixes of Josh Wink's 2015 shocker "Denial" (OVM 254EP). Splitting his complex multi-personality across two sides, the UK techno lifer explores his innermost dual psyche to create two wholly different tracks, both of which reflect the original's strengths. As Planetary Assault Systems (one of Slater's oldest and boldest alter-egos), he provides a nuclear-powered bulldozer of a version. On the B-side, Slater delivers the first L.B. Dub Corp production since his 2013 Unknown Origin album (OSTGUT 029CD/015LP). Two distinctive, forward-thinking, visceral, floor-focused remixes from one of techno's most respected, longstanding, and prolific minds.

Chymera's beautifully melancholic "The Divided Self" (named after psychiatrist R. D. Laing's The Divided Self: An Existential Study in Sanity and Madness (1960)) is pensive, poignant, restrained, and ruled by minor chords. The bassline of "Canavan Calling" (named after Joseph Payne Brennan's short horror story) is so broad, rich, and textured it's almost overwhelming. It was created on an original Minimoog, an instrument with which Chymera fell in love while attending a Studio Stekker week alongside Mathew Jonson, Sebastian Mullaert, The Mole, and others. Starlit synths soon enter the mix, soaring further upward to create a natural, rolling organic build and payoff.

Ovum welcomes one of Japan's most consistent techno producers of the 2010s, Ryogo Yamamori. Each cut of this tight tech triptych is detailed for the dancefloor. The vibrant hypnosis of "Hasu" features filtered hook insistency, grainy kicks, and nutrient-rich bass -- a bright sonic flower blooms in every direction. "Overwork" is a lean, mean groove-machine galvanized by a woozy 808 that bubbles ominously and gradually rising metallic alien stabs. Angular acid track "Resource" brings things to a heightened warehouse-ready climax with timeless class; a spiked-out acid riff, thunderous kicks, and precision-placed rifle-like claps ensure the full physical tech experience.

Italian duo Doomwork follow their appearance on Chris Tietjen's 2015 compilation Zehn (CORMIX 049CD) with their Ovum debut, a trio of powerful rolling tech burners. The rolling kick/tom groove of "Marmalade" suddenly shifts into high gear with a precision snare injection, before a synth odyssey breakdown coded in pure Italo positivity. "In the End" showcases the deeper, shouldering side of Doomwork's creativity, igniting with a slow-burning drum arrangement before dreamy pads stretch around robust mid-tempo kicks to hypnotic effect. Doomwork's "Terraforma Dub" of "Marmalade" strips back the drums and gradually rebuilds the groove with majestic synth flurries peppering the spectrum.

It's a bold producer who takes on the task of remixing a stone-cold classic from the annals of house history, but that's just what KiNK and Phil Weeks have done with their remixes of DJ Dozia's Ovum debut, "Pop Culture." Originally released in 1998, "Pop Culture" rapidly gained cult status in the underground. Created by Philly resident Dozia Blakey, the raw, sparse, original was made for the dark, strobe-lit, sweat-on-walls rooms where it found favor, and the original 12-inch is now one of the most sought-after 12"s on Discogs.

Israeli producer Yotam Avni follows killer cuts for the likes of Robsoul, Be as One, and Osunlade's Yoruba Records with "This Is How," bursting in with a clipped but swollen kick drum before a vocal snippet chimes in through a mesh of bass. The break kicks the driving rhythm up a notch, mixing Avni's trademark uplifting house with galvanized, toughened techno beats. Steve Rachmad's remix sits dry flanges, acid stabs, and filtered analog synths atop a frenetic hi-hat for a bass-less but high-impact smasher. The hypnotic, wavering acid synth lines and muted kick drums of "Bbbooy Skat" ignite into a techno roller.

New Jersey's finest returns to Ovum with the much-anticipated follow up to his hugely-successful and widely-supported 2014 Get Deep EP (OVM 241EP), a release that saw Romero return to his roots and deliver, with the title-track, a true festival and Ibiza house anthem. Here, "Aquarium" and "What What" seek to carry on from where that record left off. With its echoing sax and signature snappy percussion, "Aquarium" leads the release with its wonderful balaeric mood and flavor. "What What" taps into Romero's techier trade, as he twists and tweaks in a full-on dark-room frenzy, evoking memories of classic his Sondos moments.
