SNDST 079EP

Israeli producer Shlomi Aber makes his Second State debut with an assured package of nuanced, nimble techno, of the standard you'd expect from a chameleonic producer with over 17 years in the game. "Orion" is a paranoia-laced stomper, with rattling beats and synths that dart around like eyeballs scanning the crowd for friends. Silky stabs lend the track a cinematic quality, almost mimicking a scene in a horror movie. "Nuclear" is just as evocative, layering a harmony of string stabs over teasing synthetic hi-hats and whipping FX. It's complex and intelligent, but Shlomi makes it sound effortless. The Pan-Pot remix of "Orion" is stormier. The same rubbery, springy bassline is there but the track is trippier in character thanks to tribal drums and synths that pop like rayguns. Think "galactic circus" and you're getting close. Buzzing insect sounds usher in "Brikz", an atmospheric track designed to put you on edge, in a good way. At the track's tensest point, the drums drop out altogether before returning in downtempo breaks-y patterns. Definitely not your typical techno cut, but then nothing Aber does is typical. Second State is thrilled to welcome this master producer into the family with a release that promises to expand minds while moving bodies.

Shlomi Aber has been a driving force in house and techno for almost a quarter of a century now. Having first stepped up to the decks at the young age of 14, he received classical music training and worked in a record store in his native Israel before eventually becoming one of the country's most forward-thinking producers. With his debut EP Lost In Humanity on Ellen Allien's BPitch Berlin, the Be As One founder presents his rawest material to date, energetic yet murky techno for basement raves drenched in sweat and chemicals.

Shlomi Aber continues to explore different avenues of his multi-faceted sound with Whistler. Setting the pace is driving opening track "Whistler", the producer showcasing his ability to craft something big but undoubtedly refined. He then lets old school drums cruise along gentle sways of washed-out ambience. Back with more techno on the B side, this time in true Figure-style: lean, sharp, and utterly effective "Penetrate The System" leaves its mark and comes complete with an extended, separate intro. Staying atmospheric to the end, Aber chooses to step out in half-time, taking cues from dubstep.

Shlomi Aber presents his third album Linear Equations. The ten-tracker double-LP closes the ten-year celebration of Be As One and follows his 2010 album Chicago Days, Detroit Nights on Ovum Recordings (OVM 9010CD/EP). Through carefully crafted EPs on NonPlus, Figure, Be As One, and more recently Odd Even and Drumcode Ltd, Shlomi's sound has continued to evolve and refine with his Linear Equation album. The album opens up with "Interior", setting the tone for an introspective journey that will take you from the dub-infused techno of "Echo Mission" and "Fractions" to the acidic trip of "Midnight Spooks" and "Mod3333". Hypnotic techno on "Eimeon" and "Fall Into Wonder" flirts with broken beats on "Installer" and climax with the floating percussions and anthemic pads of "State Of Sorrow". Gatefold sleeve.

Shlomi Aber's first outing for Figure sees the now Barcelona-based artist drawing on his many influences to deliver a tastefully rounded three-tracker. "Under Two Worlds" grooves subtly along a funky acid riff, while anthemic synths longingly recall bygone moments of grandeur. Paced only at half-time and drenched in dubby reverb, the weighing beats of "Rumbles" engage with delicately shaped sounds for some seriously spaced-out head nods. "Matrix" is a tightly woven mesh of machinery insides, which Aber nevertheless manages to channel into a fairly straight- forward kinetic energy.

Keeping the no nonsense techno attitude of his latest Nonplus release, "Panix" keeps bearing Shlomi's relentless, dark and raw signature sound. Skudge strips down "Panix" into two separate remixes, taking the original into a deeper and back to basics mood, with his known trademark grooves.

Nordstern, Switzerland's most prestigious underground club and a three-time Swiss Nightlife Award-winner for "Best Club," celebrates its 2015 15th anniversary with an exclusive rough techno mix by club favorite and Be as One owner Shlomi Aber. Recognized as a highly influential artist and techno pioneer, Aber draws from jazz, funk, minimal, acid, and, in particular, old school Detroit techno. He has developed a groundswell of genre-defying support, and his worldwide success includes awards and nominations for "best newcomer" (2005), "producer and track of the year" (2007), and Beatport's "Artists of the Year" (2008); a nomination at the Worldwide DJ Awards; and the "Best Techno DJ" award at the Sankeys Awards, 2014. These accolades and more have placed Aber in the first tier of electronic music artists, headlining every prestigious club, festival, and venue worldwide. "I'm very excited and humbled to be part of this project," says Aber. "Not only because yet again I have the opportunity to collect some of my favourite and most played music of recent times into one driving mix, but also because of the big influence the Nordstern club had on my career as a DJ and musician." A small group of artists and DJs founded Nordstern in 2000, and it quickly grew into a home base for a wide variety of musical styles, from old school funk to nu skool funky breaks; from indie rock to indie dance to electronica... even gothic and new wave found their way to Nordstern, as did house and techno. In 2010 Nordstern was completely rebuilt, and its reputation as a highly esteemed platform for high-end nightlife has continued to grow. With DJ sets from internationally recognized artists like Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Marco Carola, Luciano, Chris Liebing, Sven Väth, Âme, Dixon, Tale of Us, Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex, Ricardo Villalobos, Jamie Jones, Nina Kraviz, Marcel Dettmann, Adam Beyer, and many more, Nordstern is Switzerland's state of the art when it comes to clubbing on an international level. This mix was recorded in real time in front of a live audience with three decks and an RMX-1000 Effects Unit... let it be raw. Tracks by Kepler 61, Chevel, Steve O'Sullivan, Avion remixed by Thomas Hessler, Afrozoid remixed by Myles Sergé, Markus Suckut, Marco Faraone, Wire, Marco Effe, Joachim Spieth, DJ Hyperactive remixed by Truncate, MUUI remixed by Ray Kajioka, Tensal, Setaoc Mass, Entro Senestre, Ilario Alicante, Shlomi Aber, and D-IX.

Shlomi Aber returns to Ovum in fine form with the Slack Tide EP. Shlomi has stayed busy the past two years focusing on releases for his own Be As One imprint as well as big releases on Desolat and Cadenza Lab. He returns to Ovum coming off strength after strength with his releases. For his Ovum return, Shlomi has come back with a bang. The title-track is a rolling ball of energy. The track ebbs and flows, delivering builds that should drive the dancefloor crazy. For the B-side, Shlomi returns to his techno roots with "Warehouse." You can see this being played in a dark, sweaty warehouse space and driving the crowd insane. Both tracks will rock any crowd and show Shlomi's diversity.

Recognized as one of the main techno pioneers and influential artists of recent times, Shlomi Aber has a personal approach, married with 12 years production experience, that takes influence from jazz, funk, minimal, acid and, in particular, the old-school Detroit techno movement. Aber has created some of the most recognizable and unique techno of modern times, boasting some of the world's most prestigious labels on his ever-expanding CV: Cocoon, Ovum, R&S and Renaissance, to name but a few. Growing from the classic Tel Aviv '90s underground dance scene, Shlomi's rise through the DJ ranks of his native environment is a house fairytale in its purest form, beginning with throwing regular parties for his mates in his parents' garage when he was just 14, to playing massive events such as the Love Parade, Gay Parade, Dance & Levis, and many others. Shlomi was selected one of Beatport's artists of the year for 2008 and also received a respected "Worldwide DJ Awards" nomination, placing Shlomi in the first tier of electronic music artists, headlining every prestigious club, festival or venue worldwide. 2006 saw Shlomi launch his own imprint, bookings, and artist management agency. This heralded the birth of one of the most established and top-leading labels of the underground dance music scene, the Be As One imprint. The label, with its broad range of quality underground house and techno, has become a firm favorite with the world's elite, with the only constant being that "a track must have the right feeling and stand out in its own way." After another successful EP release in 2010, Shlomi finally brings us his debut album on Ovum Chicago Days/Detroit Nights. Shlomi really shows his diversity on this LP, from the driving main-floor monsters of "Groove Mechanism" to the melodic beauty of "Taped And Gorgeous." Shlomi takes you on a journey and reveals why he is one of the most sought-after and respected producers at the moment.

"With his 4th release on his own imprint, Shlomi Aber this time takes a slightly housier road, mixing once again different elements from both the techno and house worlds. Something that Be As One has made one of its strong point when delivering the goods. With 'Namgo' on the A and 'Black Title' on the B, expect techno meets house on both fronts, smartly mixed with etchnic flavoured chants, tribal-influenced rhythms and the usual Shlomi Aber productions quality and his imprint."

"Shlomi Aber's relentless conquering of the techno scene is in its full stage. In just a few years, Shlomi has delivered seminal classic cuts of what could be called the 21st century techno generation. His productions are now found in the most various and different record bags worldwide, and his trademark sound has graced only legendary labels like Ovum, Cocoon, & Renaissance. Now, after his latest hits 'Tokyo Shangai' and 'Quivvery' on Ovum, Shlomi is back on his own imprint with another release just in time for the coming summer. In Theory Yes has Aber's trademark written all over and carries the concept we use to call Shlomi Aber style. It is another one of those hypnotic, groovy techno tunes that Shlomi has us used and surely won't miss the hit on the floors! 'Efrat,' on the B-side, offers a deeper approach for Shlomi's techno perspective, as Detroit and old school sounds are mixed up with a smart groove that keep the tune consistent and very effective. Serious DJs looking for their slice of 'smart techno' will surely find 'Efrat' a place in their box."
