LOTR 019EP

Love On The Rocks returns with its first release for 2019 and its first-ever reissue, Cry Freedom by Romie Singh. 1989 was a year of drastic global shift that brought globe-altering change to Johannesburg, Berlin, Moscow, and Beijing. 2019 marks another stage global shift with the tightening of borders, erosion of civil liberties and human rights, and endless beating of the political drums calling for division and war, Singh's lyrics express a universal call that echoes around the world. Edition of 300 (hand-stamped, numbered) Contains the 10-minute "long" version of the track as originally released on the 1989 maxi single.

Thomas Gandey and Danny McLewin -- known from Psychemagik -- emerged from their studio in Bordeaux, France, claiming to have produced an extended musical arrangement, both entitled, and containing the sounds of, the shakuhachi. Furthermore, they insisted, for the purposes of this production, they should be referred to henceforth as Ghost Vision. Paramida enlisted the help of two musicians named Alex. Both Alex From Tokyo -- teaming up with Isao Kumano and Kenichi Takagi as Tokyo Black Star -- and Alex from Kyoto, known as Al Kassian, turned in striking reinterpretations of Gandey and McLewin's composition.

Das Komplex, aka Marcin Łukaszewicz, is super happy to be slow, and to make records, and build ships, or whatever it is that he does. Rumor has it, Henry built the Ostbahnhof with his bare hands. Before that he was making music for twenty happy-go-lucky years. This is his first offering for Love On The Rocks. It's sublime, it's soft, and it wants you to fall in love, at night, back in the days, under the electric light of your favorite dancefloor, with two major jams on the A-side, and a consciousness-altering, dancefloor-destroying, 13-minute disco trip on the other.

Omer joins Love On The Rocks with a massive underground smash, "Bye", the rework that's been doing the rounds among a handful of trusted DJs. It lands here as the title track of the EP, perfectly tooled for any poolside dance party. Omer moves effortlessly into his trademark late-night melancholic trip territory with "High Hopes", leading in with snapping percussion before giving way to a fierce bassline, swirling layers of melody, and synths. "Back And Forth" pulses with electric energy, quickly pulling you into its distinctly neon after-dark atmospherics, with a foreboding hook that twists around itself amid spiraling tension.

BUNKR, with James Dean as ringleader, enslave dust-coated synthesizers, dilapidated drum machines, and rusty FX boxes to craft 4/4 tunes for their impatient overlords. "Cloud Chaser" is a bubbling jam backed with a huge remix from Shan, who flips the mix with dramatic strings, magic dust, and massive amen breaks. "Juno's Revenge" is a track you'd turn up while taking a nice afternoon stroll on the moon, on a sunny morning after a long interplanetary rave. Igor Tipura delivers the rework, complete with a marching percussion workout and acid chemtrails that will send you right back to 1993.

Totes Preesh, New York's Sean Marquand and Patrick Wood, have created these sounds, tooling them to perfection. They were featured on 2015's Mangiami (La Compilation) on Golf Channel Recordings, but this is their first 12". They are here to make you bump to a cosmic sound that is sexy and pristine, and yet, also feels exactly like two buffalo boys going round the outside. First up, "Head Shop Boys", a kicky, kinky, neon affair, perfect for late-night debauchery. "Haole" is a straight up trip, with some serious old school New York flavor.

Etbonz utilizes the latest KrystalVision technology over this eleven-and-a-half minute opus to bring you to the edge of a future where maybe, just maybe, Arnold didn't kill the Predator. DJ Steve came to New York, turned up at the Beats In Space studio, with a pile of "DJ Steve special cuts", and laid down an extended mix. Then, nobody ever heard from him. Fast forward to Berlin 2013, and this mix had become a staple at the after-hours of a small group of friends, including Paramida, who would soon start Love On The Rocks. Paramida says it showed her another perspective of groove, turning her perception of dance music "upside down". Somehow persuaded DJ Steve to sign two of his "special cuts", Love On The Rocks presents them here.

Detroit enigma Sharif Laffrey makes a return to Paramida's Berlin-based Love On The Rocks imprint with Pony EP. "Pony J.A.M." is over 9 minutes of what sounds like '90s 4/4 Indian acid-house bass music - in the best way. Surprising vocals and a healthy three minute lead in. "Pony Roger" is if the pony you were riding on the A-Side was galloping through a grassy meadow - this pony heads into a dark cave. If the A-side is The NeverEnding Story then the B-side is The Dark Crystal. But with Prince instead of Bowie.

Paramida proudly presents Tehran Bomb. Two edits bound to induce air raid sirens and international sanctions from Isfahan to Tel Aviv. "Beyond Katovl" channels peak time Hi-NRG tension and proto-trance euphoria to send early-morning chills down the spines of unwitting ravers and U.N. delegates alike. "Ms. Bombastic" takes the long way home, luring unsuspecting bystanders into a desert march to the outer rims of the after hours, proceeding through the Neukölln Sahara with a heavy-driving bassline on a seven-minute journey to a hitherto-unknown spiritual oasis. Supported by camel herders and snake charmers from here to Ahvaz.

Sharif Laffrey presents "Key Jam (A.C.I.D.)," his first release since the sleeper hit "Turn It Up" was released on Discos Capablanca in 2013. "Key Jam (A.C.I.D.)" is the treasure and the mystery. Laffrey's signature raw edit style is in full effect on this nine-minute proto-dance heater. Sharif Laffrey has been playing records and making music for since the mid-'90s. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he's worked on the line checking camshafts for Chrysler and at Submerge for Mike Banks -- at the same time. He toured Asia with Juan Atkins. Acid, tons of random stuff, tough, sexy, lovely, slow. Freak mode.

Mexican duo Zombies in Miami present their three-track Snake Language EP. The title-track is a raw, haunting, drum-heavy number. On the flip comes "Calo," with its twisting riffs that wind and turn alongside percussive interludes. "Yamo" changes the pace but is no less impressive with climactic flutes and a driving bassline.

After LOTR 005EP was (sadly) deleted, Love on the Rocks presents an alternate version -- same track list, same fantastic sound, slightly different edit. Melbournian producer Mic Newman aka Fantastic Man follows his instantly-sold-out 2014 Animal Language EP and 2015's El Tropo with Dream Machine. The title-track slides into its house-inspired beats with a taste of some early '90s progressive pads before a piano unravels. "Fountain Gate" merges the NYC garage house feel of Sha-Lor's "I'm in Love" with jungle-inspired snare fills and a timeless acid line. "St Elmo's Theme" features saturated kicks with hypnotic drum patterns and some xylophonic sparkle.

From the light-blue sea of Indonesia comes Jakarta-based Jonathan Kusuma to redefine label standards on Love on the Rocks. Widely celebrated for his 2014 Gong 3000 EP on I'm a Cliché (CLICHE 058EP), Kusuma continues his streak. Buzzing ocean-cool pads bump into a catchy piano roll on "Stein's Way," a perfect open-air main-stage-filler for a Sunday afternoon. On the flip, the game-changing "Underpass" celebrates the gathering of a horde of mushroom-infected goblins in Java. The moon looks bigger from the other side.

Looki, the follow-up to two 2014 EPs on [Emotional] Especial and Forgotten Corner Records, moves far away from the arabesque melodies of Khidja's previous productions and speaks to the neo-new-age generation -- no beat, no stress, just a guitar, the beach, and the sea. Lauer moves the track from chill-out to dancefloor with uplifting grace. Fantastic Man drops the guitar for good and kicks in with a tribal polyrhythm. Africaine 808 bubble up the original with a cascade of reverbs and delays embedded in a reduced yet complex dub beat.

Love On The Rocks is back, this time with a true summer release. Norway's Telephones offer the beautiful Mediterranean house anthem "Lotusland," backed with remixes from Discodromo and Gatto Fritto. "Lotusland" appears here in two distinct versions. An irresistible melody takes the influences of early '90s NYC clubbing but with that uplifting European touch so loved by Italian producers of the day. Italian duo Discodromo take Lotusland to a soft-waved shore to get some discoid sand between their toes, while stellar producer Gatto Fritto shows his genius with a spaced-out electro-boogie wig-out, full of laser lights and seductive reverbs.

Love On The Rocks returns to the floor with their second EP, presenting the world premiere of Ess O Ess -- a new venture from London-based producers Jamie Blanco and Chris Stoker. "Baboon" features a jungle motif that slowly fades into the mild breeze of a distinct guitar theme before shaman voices call the ghosts of their ancestors. Tiago uses the jungle setting to create a classic special agent disco movie scene set in the exotic wilds of the mid-'70s -- erotic adventures included. Bad Passion offers a dub version that detaches the bass guitar from the original, allowing appropriate space to grow and delay.

Paramida, the hostess and DJ behind Salon Zur Wilden Renate's renowned Paradisco Parties, launches her new label Love On The Rocks with a classic time-bender, which takes us on a night trip beyond the deepest galaxies, courtesy of fellow Paradisco resident Massimiliano Pagliara. "Flying Away from You." Driven by a cosmic lead melody and the ethereal voice of Heidi Diehl, Massimiliano also contributes his own half-spoken performance, backed by lyrics co-writer Jules Etienne. The record comes with an instrumental version on the flip.
